Problems tucking pinky in
« on: December 28, 2008, 02:58:52 AM »
Usually when I bowl (which has not been for almost 6 months) I tend to spread both the pinky and index fingers in order to gain maximum control. However I know that sometimes I need a bit more length and pop on the back ends and that a good way to get this is to tuck the pinky in.

The problem I have is that I tend to find it very hard to keep my hand stable/solid when attempting this, which is made worse by the fact I have weak wrists and have to wear a rigid brace.

Has anyone got any tips to help with the stability/control issues when doing this?

I would have got away with it if it was not for those pesky kids (Behind my lane) and those blasted 10 pins.

I tuck the pinky just about all the time, and this is what I do when I hook the ball:

1- At stance, with the ball in hand, my palm faces up.

2- I concentrate on having feel of the ball on the base part of the index finger/upper right corner of palm of hand.

3- I keep this feeling throughout my approach/delivery, which results in no uncomfortable feeling of tucked pinky, and gets maximum lift/leverage at point of release.

Hope this helps.

i started tucking my pinky a few years ago.  I now cannot stop.  Even when i try to keep it on the ball, i end up tucking it during the approach.  It feels so odd NOT doing it!  So i just do it everytime.

That's me... Even when im not paying attention it still gets tucked in. Just try and make the ball stable in your hand

majority of the weight (ball weight that is) should rest in the left (if you're right handed) hand, therefore less pressure on the tucked pinky.  Using less muscle and reducing the discomfort as well.
