More info on reviews
« on: August 24, 2003, 01:00:55 PM »
After reading reviews for quite some time now I have come to realize that about 1/2 the reviews dont really give info. When I read a review, I want to know the ball weight (15lbs), pin (2-3"), drilling layout (4 x 4), condition used on (40 foot tophat), and lane type (wood, syntheic). What line(s) did you play, what was the reaction it gave, how was the carry, so on and so forth. A review is basically free advertising for a ball so one would want as much info as possible. This also goes to the profile issue some of us have, put your info in a profile! If I see a review on a Phenom, I dont want to see "Love this ball, hooked a lot, shot 279/740 first night out, carried everything." Everybody knows the Phenom hooks a lot, and no ball carries everything, or else this person would have shot 900. Review should be more like this:
Phenom
15lbs
2" pin
2.75 Top weight
Drilled 3 3/8 x 3 3/8
Shot: 37 foot top hat with heavier oil from 5-5, outside 5 bone dry.
Stood at 25, threw over 15 out to 5, ball came in high 5 shots in a row. Moved to standing 30, throwing over 20 out to about 6-7 board, ball held in the oil a little longer, got to the breakpoint and crushed the pins. Carries 10 pins very well, off hits had good success as well. Once the shot burns up, need to put this one away cause it will burn up at your feet and roll out. Great job Track, now put out a dry lane ball!

Thats how one should look. For personal info (high speed, low revs whatever), put that in your profile, then when people read your reviews, they can match it up the their game/home shots and see if it will work good for them. Sorry for the ranting, but lefties have to whine about something......

Some of us have been begging and preaching this for 3+ years now.

My opinion: ain;t going to happen, unless there's a template used when a person wants to do areview and they are forced to fill in certain criteria. Even then there's no one to force them to fill in the correct information in that criteria or field. Bruce cannot possibly review every potential ball review and tell the person what needs to be done in order for the review to have meaning to others, such as what you'd like to see.

Maybe a database system would be best? Have drop down bars of weight, pin distance, bowlers speed, ave rev rate etc. To be able to post a review the person has to have the knowledge to fill in EVERY feild of information, if they cant, they cant post the review until they go and ask what drilling the driller put on the ball, what top weight it has etc etc. Then at the end there is a space where they can write their opinions on the ball in a paragraph or two. Then a review would look like this.

Name: Matt Smith
Ball: Apex Obsession
Pin Distance: 2-3
Top Weight: 2.5 Oz
Drilling: 5x5
Speed: 26-28km/h
Rev Rate: High
Right of Left Hand: Right
House condition: Top Hat
Wood/Synthetic: Synthetic
If you liked the ..... You will like this ball: Apex Addiction
Condition for the ball: Heavey Oil

Opinion: I like this ball because............/I dont like this ball because...............

I think you get the picture, someone that knows a bit about I.T should be able to whip one up no worries, i did databases last semester at university and didnt find them THAT hard, and im not good with computers.

Thoughts?

Good luck and high scoring
matt
