More Oil Please?
« on: April 12, 2010, 01:17:19 PM »
I bowl in Florida, so the typical volume of lane oil doesn't go as far this time of year when the temperatures start staying above the 82 degree mark with high humidity.

Tonight for example, by the third game I was throwing my teammates White Dot from 14 to 6, and it was flipping to the pocket. Had to start league with my Freeze, and it only lasted a few frames of the first game before I had to put it away for something even weaker.

So, how do I talk the lane man into putting down some more oil? Or what should my arsenal have to deal with situations like this, because it's been happening a lot lately.

That's obscene! I thought we had it bad here in NJ.

The Lane man is basically not going to make that decision, unless the manager put that decision into his hands.

A friend started using an XXXL on Thursdays in northern NJ for all THREE games. I started using a Desperado for my 3rd and 4th game here in central NJ.

On Sunday we practiced. My plastic ball was rolling out at the arrows anywhere right of the 3rd arrow. My one option was to go down the 1/2/3 board with plastic. Instead of practice I got 5 games of exercise.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. I'm thinking of looking into a couple of lower end pieces specifically for league.

Currently I'm looking into Urethane, a White Dot, and probably a 3 piece of some kind.

Other than that I don't know how to stay in front of the transition when I'm making 4 board moves every 2 frames, and if I touch it all at the bottom I'm left with something fun to shoot at.

Wow....you guys make me feel Like I am bowling in paradise in the house I bowl in.  I see some dry sometimes, but nothing like that. If I ran into that condition here, all I have is my Red XXXL to battle it.

I just picked up a red XXXL because outside of one house I get to occasionally oil's become a luxury.  Add to that all the bowlers throwing Cells, Virtual Gravitys, and all the other big hooking balls and whatever oil there is quickly disappears.

I just bowled a six game set due to a snow day makeup that was voted for. by the second set (game 4) I was throwing a t-road pearl standing on 37 and throwing over 22 at the arrows! and keep in mind I throw about 300 revs. I eventually stayed there but moved my target to 25.

I also bowl in nj. its not usually that bad but I do notice that most of the time other bowling alleys further away from me do start with more oil.

BUT I do think that their lane surface will cause more friction (darker looking)

Welcome to Florida.........I can't remember the last time I found "oil" on my league shot here in south florida. We have one lefty guy in our legaue that even uses a rubber ball regulalrly because everything else --even plastic is sometimes too much for him.

I bowl in a decent league on thursday but on fridays the little league never gets any form of oil(most of the time its leftover from the thursday night league), most of the time i get to use the clear wolf, which confuses me cause they have no problem putting a fresh blue pattern out to practice on at the other end of the house

I feel your guys pain.  Our center just changed the oil patter. Its only oiled to 17ft and then buffed to 40. The only thing i can use and carry is to grab my Invasion ,stand on the 5th arrow and send it out to about the 8. Its pretty brutal.

If you are keeping an invasion on the right side, regardless of where you stand, it can't be that dry.

Icewall,

Not, of course, not all places are this bad. I'm just lucky I guess.
I know some places that insure there's oil or at least head oil:
Howell, Circle, Lodi, Carolier (sometimes)
I'm not familiar with southern or western Jersey and not with every northern Jersey center.

There are many other places that either oil very lightly and/or don't oil when there are no leageus or over the weekend (winter AND summer).
