Drilling options
« on: November 07, 2006, 03:14:14 PM »
I am new to finger tip bowling and need to know some options. I ended up getting a Columbia Hyde with the green pin under my ring finger. I shoot with my hand on the side like Im shaking someones hand to start off and at release. If I shoot with speed the ball only moves a few boards or if I ease it move down and in ok. I want to know why type of patterns are right for me for my stroker type of release. I like to slide not plant and crank. I want to know this because the one shop just measured me up and drilled the ball without knowing anything about how I shoot and I know that was a issue since it was my first finger ball. Also for a right handed shooter does the ball have more hook if the pin is to the right of the ring finger?
What is flare?

You need to find a good fitter/driller that will watch you bowl and give you suggestions.  Hard to give intelligent suggestions when you can't see the customer throw the ball.  For a first fingertip ball, I would have watched you bowl, but would not have tried to check your PAP since it could change dramatically from a conventional drill to fingertip.  I'd have used the standard layout for when you don't know the player's PAP, placing the pin beside and slightly above the ring finger.  --  JohnP
