I'm tired, if we don't move next season, then I will...

Our pair broke down last night. a roller broke and no replacement part was on hand so we had to move to another pair. On this pair we expriemced the rack sweeping pin unnecessarily and we had to call to re-spot pins. and the system was scoring itself without even bowling - we had to fix the scoring. Also, One lane we had to reset the rack often to set the pins. If a strike was scored, no pins were set. AND......The belt system spat a ball OUT ONTO THE Lanes from the pin deck. The ball returned from the right gutter.

They are short staffed most nights and service is crappy these days. I had ordered food from the snack bar and it took a game and a half to get my hotdog and fries....
4 more months to go.....

Sounds like you have a very long season ahead for you and with all this going on sometimes it is just such a chore bowling and time you get home later than usual you are just slam worn out. I know the feeling and wish you luck.

I bowl Second shift, I sometimes get home passed midnight.

We got 1 house that basically runs like crap

And 3 others that run great.  One of the better ran houses closed in September. 

Somebody keeps bailing out the loser house :(

As I might have mentioned this a few times already:
3 years ago Bowlmor took over my AMF home house and screwed it up big time, before actually kicking out 3 large leagues. Last year (2105-2106 season) they took over my Brunswick home house and proceeded to do the same thing to it, although they promised the leagues that they would not change anything because it was such a well run house (it was, past tense). They proceeded to make similar destructive changes in care and maintenance. So, this year I also left that house for "greener pastures".

Find a new house soon. Check out leagues and try subbing in them if possible to see what's going on. I'd suggest privately owned bowling centers if possible.

that is truly sad new about those centers mentioned....

I have a few centers in mind. One of the two I have in mind is steve cooks fireside lanes. which is 35 to 50 mins drive depending on traffic and time of day/night.

The other one is closer, but no second shift leagues. I still have time to decide, but you are right, I should start subbing in these places and see.....

I moved to 2 new centers.
One is 40 minutes East; it's after rush hour, so it's quick.
The 2nd is 45 minutes North but it's on a 2 lane black top that's 45 minutes when clear and an hour during rush hour, which is very stressful, full of idiots. I get there, not in good shape. I may not return even though the people who work there and bowl there are absolutely great.

The year before last I bowled in a league that was about 40-45 minutes from my home.  The two houses that I usually bowl at are 15-20 minutes from home.
The first few weeks I thought I may have made a mistake driving 40+ minutes each way, but I quickly got use to it and I really enjoyed the folks that bowled in the league.  There was hardly any traffic after the league (night) so the ride home was a snap.
I'm thinking that I will again join a league at that house next season, in addition to the other two houses I bowl at.

Getting home after midnight bowling? My wife would beat the brakes off me if I did that. Hell, i complain if I get home after 10:30.

I wish there was a choice in my area. All the first shift 6:00pm leagues are mixed handicap. It makes sense because those leagues are the big house money makers, with 5-person teams and all the alcohol and food sales.


The competitive leagues almost always start at 9:00pm. My Scratch Sport Shot league doesn't get going until about 9:15pm because they have to strip and re-oil following the 6:00pm THS league. It's never happy time waking up the next morning.  :-\

That is too far to drive to bowl for this almost 80 year old man. As well as I like to bowl when I am able to, and as much as I love bowling, I would be forced to quit if I had to drive that far. The house I bowl in is 15 minutes from where I live and another that I used to bowl in is 20 minutes away. That is my limit.  :P

I like bowling, not enough to get home at midnight or dread waking up the next morning. When we bowl the "slow teams", " the hang out and not bowl in a timely manner" or "the smoke between games" I don't go. I don't tolerate people taking other people's time for granted.

I understand where you're coming from. I'm retired now so it's not so much of a deal anymore, but when I was working, getting up at 4:30am for work the next morning was a real b*tch...
 
Still, when I occasionally give in and agree to sub for the 6:00pm leagues, I remember why the short term lack of sleep is worth it. It's just not the same as bowling with guys (and a few gals) who really respect bowling at higher levels.
 
On a side note, I'm bowling with my mom in a daytime senior league to spend more time with her. I initially looked forward to this league like a root canal, but it's been more fun than I could have imagined. These 70-90 year olds still have a lot of competitive sprit left. It's inspiring seeing older folks going out and giving everything they've got.

When I moved to the mainland, I lived across a nice AMF HOUSE. It was similar in distance from silver legacy hotel to the bowling stadium in reno. One block away..... I wasn't bowling then, I didn't return to the game until 2 years later. By then, I moved 25 mins away and 40 with traffic.

When I golfed 3 to 4 times a week, I drove 25 mins to 1.5 hours to play... I don't golf anymore and I live less than 5 mins (1/4 mile) between two courses, my old home course and a par 3. Also, 3 miles from a golf range....... lol my R7's  need attention
