why does everyone want the most hooking ball out, it really isn't going to help your game all that much, there aren't a lot of alleys that put down a lot of oil, therefore you are going to get a ball that burns up and leaves a bunch of flat tens.

Agreed, Visionary AMB Centaur Particle. Far stronger than the SUper Carbide Bomb by Lane #1 from my encounters and it was suppose to be the heavy oil monster of it's time.

I still believe it depends in where you want the hook... covering most boards can be over all on the lane but also with a nice skid snap reaction by a "weaker" ball ...

and I know a guy that throw a pearl Uranium with high revs all over the lane from board 30-35 over the middle out to the first 5 boards and then have the ball snap back to the pocket.... drilling... high revs... high speed... skid/snap... WOW...

It's just that it's such an individual thing.  To get a lot of hook, you need really juicy heads and really clean back ends.  Of course, if you have that, everything looks good.  On really heavy oil, nothing hooks.  But if you use a ball that's too strong for the conditions, it hooks/rolls out and does nothing.  It's easier to describe a lane condition and your style and look for advice.  Oil handling and hooking have little to do with each other.

There have been some good suggestions for heavy oil presented here, but typically what happens is that the person buys the oil eater, it rolls out in the heads, they polish the daylights out of it, and then are fairly happy.  Truth be told, they could have used a much different ball on the correct conditions and been just as happy.

A few reasons:

1) It's impied in the question that more hook = more effectiveness = more scoring. Even on true heavy oil, that's usually not the case.

2) There is no such thing as a universally agreed to 'big hook' ball. One man's hook is another man's burn out. The question gets old because it doesn't have an answer.

All these threads generate is a long laundry list of balls that may or may not get the job done. Go to any manufacturers site, and they'll list their 'big hook' ball of the month. It's a much more effective way to get your question answered.

LOL.  Some years ago at state tournament I was using a white dot (a blue one as I recall) and was outhooking folks using Gold angles, etc.  Even though my knowledge level was much lower then I could recognize burn out when I saw it.

Those, as far as I know, are NOT the biggest hooking balls. They are the earliest hooking and need the MOST oil to perform at all.

BECAUSE in the 99.99% case, the most hook is useless and counterproductive. That's why!

As a theoretical question, it's fun to see which ball hooks the most of the proper amount of oil for that ball. AS a practical question ... well. there is no practical side to it, except to satisfy your ego, which again is TOTALLY counterproductive in bowling.

agreed... the best carry I get from straight fown and in balls... hook balls on the other hand tend to leave me nasty stuff.... (same ball... different release )

This is so true.  Also the ball itself isn't the all-inclusive answer anyway.  Your PAP comes into play, drilling layout, surface, speed, and much more can come into play.  Let's just say you buy a Brunswick Fury because of the hook potential.  You get said ball drilled without knowing your specs, and/or MB/PSA set off at let's say 135 degrees.  That ball won't do jack.

However, the next guy can come in with let's say, a Track Desert Heat.  He has it drilled by a shop that has all his info down already.  He knows what layout he wants, and has the pin and MB/PSA in a location (i.e. 45 degress) for most overall hook.  He then sands it down to lets say 800 or lower abralon.  It's going to out hook that Fury, though it's not supposed to.

This is exactly why there will never be one, or few, true answers.
