Most Important Asset N Bowling
« on: November 01, 2012, 05:41:24 PM »
Just wanted to know what most of you thought was the most important asset in bowling.... Everybody has talent but which asset do you think is important to become a great bowler....

This season I am healthy physically but mentally I am so done.... My girlfriend/partner has been extremely sick and has been in the hospital for more than 3 weeks.. Personally I wanted to stop bowling but she would have wanted me to continue so that is what I am trying to do.. Scoring is very difficult and bowling against two people and just using her avg and my low scores has become very challenging...

That being said I would say HEART is the most important asset in bowling for me...

Sorry to hear about your girlfriend,I hope her health improves soon. In response to your question, I would have to say the ability to focus on the next shot, and tune out everything else is of the utmost importance to a great bowler.

Sorry about your girlfriend, that's hard to deal with.  I think accuracy is the most important attribute.  If you're like WRR and almost never miss the pocket or miss a spare good scores come easily.  --  JohnP

It has been said a great release can cure many ills in one's game.
Long Gone also posts the honest truth which is why i respect him. He posts these things knowing some may not like it.

Sorry to hear about your girl. I would say practice but maybe not bowl competitively yet. Its obvious your head isnt into it and there's no use wasting your money. Maybe get a sub.
My answer to your question is focus is the greatest asset in bowling. It affects everything from mental to physical.

Never give up.

I started Thursday night with a 158 (an atrocity for me), made a ball change, zone change, went from hooking it to manipulating the hand (taking the lane pattern out of play) and a mental state change......game 2 was 279 and game 3 was 240.  I salvaged a set.

1)  talent / release
2)  spare game
3)  mental toughness

The MOST important can be debated, but the three listed above is a solid start.

On edit:  best of wishes to your girlfriend Zan.  Hope this post finds her recovering fast!

The most important asset for me is balance at the line. If I am balanced then everything else seems to follow.

IMO its the mental game.  You can have the best everything...and you can still have an off day..only your mental game can pull u out of the hole youre in.

There are many with great releases and solid mechanics who can't bowl their way out of a paper bag. While developed fundamentals, spare making, and mental toughness are prerequisites to being a good bowler, by themselves, they aren't enough.

Good to great bowlers know how to read the lanes and make adjustments as patterns transition. It's one of the more difficult skills to develop, but necessary. It seems to be the defining factor in most tournament environments.
