Consistency
« on: April 15, 2004, 09:33:53 AM »
I bowled a 237 tonight and then a few games later, I bowled a 126. Can anyone help me with consistency? I'm looking for generic advice. I know that whoever responds would have to watch me bowl.

Without knowing how you throw the ball, the questions that I would ask myself would be:

1) What was I doing differently in the 237 game that I couldn't do in the 127 game? Was I bowling at a faster or slower pace to achieve the higher game? Was I making all of my spare shots and hitting my mark consistently before while my shot was all over the place in the latter game?

2) How many games were bowled in that set? Usually when I bowl a low game either mental or physical fatigue has set in, resulting in a lapse of concentration and the ability to pull shots that normally would be made with ease.

3) Adrenaline. Were you pumped up from bowling such a high game that when you bowled the following games, you pressed too hard and were unable to relax, which can also result in some unnatural shots.

I'm sure many more people will provide insight, but there's a good start to consider what happened and what can be worked on in the future.

You started thinking, in your 237 game you were relaxed, letting the ball work and it all come together. A few gaes later you tensed up and started thinking about what you were doing.

I was just the opposite last night. First game 158! Man was I upset with myself. We lost that game by two pins.

Second game 215, still lost though.

Third game 245 and we won by enough to take series.

I made larger moves with my feet and let the ball & gravity work together instead of trying to muscle it down the lane.

Isn’t funny how things work when you get out of their (your own) WAY!
