My own Rant...
« on: April 15, 2004, 05:20:34 PM »
While I typically don't complain about too many things messing me up beyond myself either throwing a bad shot or just not reading my ball reaction correctly...after last night I have to vent!

Last night of league last night and I started off the night on a good pace: 289 / 277 (damn ten pins!)...anyways!  Going at a 290 pace the last game (did I mention damn ten pins?) and I'm on the approach in the 10th.  I just start my approach when I here them announce my name / set as if I had finished bowling.  I know that I either should've stopped or shouldn't have even heard it but I did and I tried to throw a shot.  End up almost dumping the ball and leave a 1-2 pick it up and finish off my 834.  Now while this is a good set I could've struck out for a 856 and the house record.  Most of the league came up to me afterwards and asked what the hell happened as they also noticed I was on the approach when it was announced.  The kid behind the desk claims that the series came up on their computer screen so they announced it.  For the life of me, the manager and assistant manager (the both bowl in the league too) we can't figure out what the heck happened either?

EDIT:  I hope this post doesn't seem like I'm showing off or something (thanks Jeff!! ) but I was so pissed off at the kid behind the desk last night I could've hit him.  I still can't believe it happened and after I was actually going to stick up for the front desk people at these lanes in one of the other rant posts!

Bowling isn't about scoring high or breaking records... wait, yes it is.  I wish I could be unhappy about scoring like that.

WSUstroker...

I never said that I wasn't happy throwing the set, I mean anytime someone gets an 800 it's a great night.  But anytime I think back to "what could've been" it was always something I did that effected my score.  This time there was some outside interferrence.  I REALLY wish that I had stopped myself, but like I said it's spilt milk now.

Goof, I understand your frustration. Its one thing to go out and shoot an 8 on any given night, but to have a chance to break a record of any kind is a feat that most dont get a chance at in their lifetime. I am sure you will get your opportunity again. BTW, great set!!

Geez...now that almost hurts!  Hit a mark?  I'm a cranker I just stand left and throw right...didn't you know that?

Like I said before...gotta love the end of the year "come back next year shot."

Can you subtract 134 pins from that set and just give me the 700?

GREAT shooting!!

Bones...

While seeing people throw 300's may be a lot more commonplace on today's softer conditions, the fact that people can string together games averaging 267 or better still amazes me.  To be honest I cherish each 800 I've been fortunate enough to hit as nobody really ever knows when / if they will hit another one.

Yes, goals are good to have as they will keep an individual motivated in whatever endeavor they might be involved in.  I know in the back of my mind that even if I had struck out I still would have a goal in mind.  Not to beat that set for the sake of a record, but to shoot a higher score in the future to simply better myself.  Geez...if having the house record wouldn't give me something to look forward to, I would hate to see what shooting a 900 did to the 7 people that have accomplished that goal.
