In your opinion what is the most versatile ball out there on the market today. If you could only use 1 ball for conditions med to med heavy what would it be?
-
pyramid chosen path
-
Disturbed.....Takes surface changes very well
-
I love the Strike King since I recently put an weight hole in it bringing it to 1/2 negative side it rolls even better now.
-
Siesmic Euphoric
-
Siesmic Euphoric
The Euphoric is killing it for me right now, I can play it both first and second shift without making any huge moves.
-
Track 706 C/A
-
love my defiant soul
can make it roll, can make it skid flip, can throw it straight at the ten pin. love that ball
-
Only able to use my disturbed if the lanes are flooded. Doesn't happen much around here, so I maybe have 10 games on ball, in last 2 months. Not versatile for me at all. Disapponting to say the least!! IQ tour pearl so far has been my go to ball.
-
For med-med/heavy it's gotta be the Iq tour solid folks...
I don't have one as my vr solid still does the trick for me.
So in my bag that it currently produced..it's the crossroad with light polish..almost no polish...smoooooth
-
Change disturbed surface to 500/1000/2000/4000 and it will be much cleaner and useable. At ob surface it is super strong
-
I'm not one to make surface changes much, but I do like a ball that allows me to throw different lines with different releases with confidence. Love my Vapor Zone for that.
-
Thank you for the info about disturbed. I think I will try it. Love the roll of ball it is just way too much for my house shots. Box is 2000 abralon. 4000 hopefully does the trick.
-
Box is 500/2000. Go all the way down and back up in steps
-
FWIW RG 2000 is actually 360/2000 unless you've been told otherwise. I had a very hard time achieving OOB reaction after 30 games and think I may have toasted the ball with the 360 (assume it was out of round).
Pro shop has surface factory so I'll leave the rough finishes to him. And as we all know it's nearly impossible to duplicate at home what is done in the factory.
I do agree with the idea do bringing the surface up to make the ball more versatile. OOB would be best for the flood, sport shots, speed dominant players.
-
I changed surface immediately to something I can repeat. The ball is great.
-
Good idea. One day I'll learn. Stubborn!
-
Just to be sure, you are recommending me to take my disturbed from 2000 abralon to 4000 abralon,to make it more usable on a typical house shot? The way it is now I never get to use it unless I see a flood on the lanes. I hate to waste such a great rolling ball.
-
Yes but take it down to 500 and then back up to 4000 in order. It smooths out the cover and it will get down lane better. I use mine in my medium ths and then go straight to my lights out. The cover takes changes well.
-
Thanks!! I think i will bring my Oath out of retirement and sand it down to 1000 grit. My list will be from strongest to weakest Oath 1000 Disturbed 4000 Hyroad Pearl 1500 IQ Tour 1500 Tropical Heat 2000 I should be able to get more use out of my Disturbed and just keep the Oath in case I hit a flood somewhere.

Versa-Max if you can find one or the new Melee.

At first I wasn't going to share my opinion because I knew someone would chime in that a "Staffers" opinion was not needed or chastising me for giving my input. Lo-and-Behold, you had to to be the first.

Everyone has the right to their opinions. However, when staffers chime in on topics like this would you they honestly say a different brand oppose to the brand they are on staff with? I'm sure staffers have thrown other equipment before getting on staff with a company.
-
As a staffer I have to agree with The Lord Field Torment, if you have never thrown the ball how would you know what the ball could do? As track fanatic says "non staffers", is this a reference to lord field only or ANY companies staff members? Be specific. But as you said all staffers had to have thrown something, so I would say before I became a staff member the Hyroad. But just a suggestion, if your gonna single out "staffers" cover all brands not just the brand you don't like, also the brand you've never thrown.

My post did not say anything about one specific brand. I said staffers which would mean ALL brands. Pat just happened to be the only staffer that I know who is on a staff that has posted. I wouldn't mind trying Lord Field but the research i did in that brand, it would not work for me and my style.

Though I generally agree with you Track_Fanatic, I kinda feel this type of thread is well suited for staffers to comment. Should I take a suggestion from some hack who only has the high-performance stuff from Utah? Or should I listen to the guy with 1000+ revs and throws only the 300 series from Track and urethane?
Personally, I would like to get some information from a person who may have equipment that suits a wide variety of conditions. And to me, that is a staffer. If Pat says a ball is the most versatile, then I know it is probably the most versatile ball in the Lord Field or Lane Masters line. I feel the same way about JustinWi and Motiv.
Simply put, for a thread like this, I want information from people who KNOW a line up and can make knowledgeable statements about that line up. I don't want Joe Shmoe telling me a Roto Grip Hyper Cell is the most versatile ball on the market.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I do understand your point and did not think of it that way. Yes, hearing from staffers on their equipment and what is the most versatile would definitely help if someone wants to stay within a brand.
-
As you know as staffers from our company we get tired and tired of hearing negative things about our company from people who have never thrown our equipment and it happens 90% of the time on this site, a ball review site for us bowlers to promote and help fellow bowlers. When I see a thread like this yes as a bowler I want the knowledge of someone who's thrown more than the mastermind, HYPERCELL or the red ball. But I did offer my opinion as a staffer and as a non staffer.

I never slammed your brand. If any other known staffer posted I would have made the same comment. It's 'staffers' not 'brand'. Maybe others have and I can understand the frustration it causes. And when I'm wrong or did not see something in the way others may and it's brought to my attention, I will admit being wrong or comment as I did above.
-
I hear ya, and yea this site has been horrible recently, it just seems soon as one of our staffers post someone has something negative to say. But probably 80% of those say me folks probably throw the ball like an octopus falling from a tree and can only throw 1 ball with no versatility. But yes I've thrown plent of brands before becoming a staffer and to this day the Hyroad has been the most versatile. The closest ball I have seen since coming to lord field has been the Torment. I have video on that ball as I do on every other release if you care to check out my YouTube page.
-
well im not a staffer and i listed the seismic euphoric as the most versatile ball i have right now . for lighter conditions i do love my lord field off the chain , but my favorite ball right now is the mastermind , went 300 , 279 212 last week with it , should have switched to the euphoric last game , my point being most versatile doesnt have to mean favorite ball , its the 1 that can perform well on the greatest variety of conditions , and all companies make great stuff
-
Personally, I have no problems with staffers giving their opinions on a versatile ball. If they don't let the general public know about different bowling options in the bowling universe.....who will?
I mean, until this thread happened, I had no idea that there was a ball called the Torment, or one called Off-the-Chain! Now I can bookmark these pieces for further research. Staffers will always be staffers and back their products. That's what they are supposed to do; but this does not diminish their ratings and/or opinions of that product any more or less, to me. It does give me a starting point, however for further review.
This site is about providing information. Whether biased or non-biased, the info should be available for all to discern what is most useful to the interested individual who gets it. Just my two cents.
-
I can appreciate the suggestion of the Torment by Pat actually. I too, am tired of the "rah, rah" of the majority of staffers here. However, it seems to me that Pat didn't do that, instead he gave us his real world opinion. Why do I think that? Because he didn't automatically suggest the latest "shiny new toy" from Lord Field/Lane Masters. The Torment has been around a quite a while. That says a lot about the value of the ball.

For medium-heavy to heavy. First I'd choose a solid cover with a medium Rg. Two balls I think look great but I use neither and have no axe to grind. Radical Reax Ver 2 and a RotoGrip Disturbed. You could change the cover to use on those lane conditions and with a solid cover you have better options. I'd be looking at one of those two.
