Haven't seen much from this gal in a while .. even though there have been many new Motiv releases .. what's happening?
-
I think she is a Brunswick girl now....
-
She isn't listed on the Motiv Site anymore.
-
I just checked the Brunswick site, yep, she is with Brunswick now.
Traitor!!
;D ;D ;D
-
Motiv for some reason didn't renew her contract. Big promoter of Motiv was lost on that move!!

Agreed, I thought she gave some of the best reviews. And her style was closer to the "average" bowler than most of the staffers.
-
Yes she is on Brunswick staff now. From what I know, MOTIV cut her loose after 5 years.Their loss.I do agree that her ball reviews were honest as a staff member could be.
And her videos were very good. Her ball motion did fit right in with most women and most men.So it was easy to judge from her videos if the ball would fit into your game.
Good luck with Brunswick.
-
Yep, perplexing. I really enjoyed her videos and reviews.
-
Check out DV8's Girl...Linda Grace... ;D :D

WMP a big fan?

Well, if she moved over to Brunswick After 10/01/14, it didn't take her long to get used to the equipment. She won a Detroit queens tournament in the middle of October.

I think her 3 revs and 10 mph ball speed were indicative of almost no other bowlers. To me her videos were worthless, but she seemed to be a nice person.
-
Too bad, I also liked her reviews....
-
I remember watching her videos, and one video her specs are at 300 rev rate....if she's 300 I must be 400....I'm at or below or a little more than 300 rpms since moving up in ball weight, and my ball isn't rev'n that slow...

Correct the majority that haven't measured their stats. over estimate two areas ball speed and revs. I like you xrayjay am 300 and 325 on a very good day. Angela was very close to 225 and 250 max IMO. But also why she could play a more direct line cuz she was speed dominant and her ball would check up and also able to use stronger equipment on average.
I any case, I wish her well.

She put a lot of work on those vids, but it'll be better if stats were accurate. again, props to her for all the work she did for the videos for us joe bowler.....anyway, there are joe bowlers at league who tell me they are 350 to 400 rpms and they barely look like they reach 300....

Her videos must have taken a tremendous amount of time and work; they were very professional looking and commentary was equivalent. However, as a few have commented upon, her rev rate and ball speed did not seem to reflect reality. If she had 250 - 300 rpms, I must have 500 and my measured rate is 275-325 depending. So I found her videos impossible to relate to.
-
Yea, but the camera adds ten pounds. ;D

I was intrigued by this discussion of her rev rate, so i downloaded one of her videos and calculated the revs. I used one of her using the Motiv venom shock because the label was easy to see and count the revs.
I used the frame count and powerhouse rev chart methods and I came up with about 180-200 revs.
Compared to videos of me and my low rev rate that I think is pretty close.
-
Rev rates are like driver distance. Deduct 20% and you'll get the real number.
-
I should look up her videos. My rev rate is about 200.
-
I agree that her rev rate wasn't as high as advertised, but I think in general watching her and most top women bowlers the average "Joe Bowler" can relate to their games and can get a read on the bowling ball they are throwing. Higher rev or speed guys gain nothing.
-

Man Charlest, that is brutal. I have never known you to be so harsh. Not cool.

Sorry, nothing there but brutal honesty. I never understood what anyone saw in her videos. Virtually every ball seemed to hook 4 or 5 boards; playing down and in., no matter how strong or how weak the ball was. That's ridiculous.
I did say they were very well done, I did say the commentary was also very appropriate and well done. I did say she was a nice person. After I said that, being as the videos served no purpose for me and being that she did have anywhere near the 280 rpms she claimed (Lucky to have 200), I think every word of criticism is valid.
I did say ,"TO ME" they were worthless. If they were useful to you, I'm not complaining. They had to have been worthwhile to Motiv or they wouldn't have had her on staff.
-
I see way more bowlers with her style than with the high speed/high rev stand left throw right staffers that normally make videos. Except, they don't usually repeat shots as consistently as she does.
I bowl in a high level scratch league with a young lady who was a college All American at Fresno State a few years ago with almost exactly the same style. She just kills it over and over(230+ average). She can't play the really deep inside lines, but then again, she doesn't have to get deep inside. Her style works on oil, dry, flat patterns and house shots.
-
Angela is a very nice woman and very accomplished bowler. Who cares what her rev rate is??? Have chatted with her on FB more than once and looking at her pictures; she does a lot for the sport up in that region. I personally do not know who adds the stats to the videos. But I am not concerned about it. Maybe one day I will be lucky enough to meet her in person and have the opportunity to bowl along side her.
-
I met Angela in Kentucky when we were taking our USBC Silver class with Coach Rod Ross and Stephen Padilla. She's a very dedicated person when it comes to bowling and helping as many people as possible. She's also as stated a very sweet person and caring person! I don't have a very high rev rate either, in the 275 range per Kegel when I was there for a few days. I mainly used her video for the shape of her shot and she can repeat shots and not spray them all over the place. Where it helps me the most is I coach a local girls high school bowling team and the girls don't have a very high rev rate and it gives me ideas for them. Plus, Motiv was nice enough to give our high school a special deal on bowling balls. We bought about 30 from them and kudos to them and Jamie Ireland. Jeff I understood what you were saying and I say the same thing when I watch videos of the 400+ rev rate bowlers and the two handed videos. They don't help me a bit because I can't relate to them! lol Just my $.02, Bruce
-
So I went and look up a few of her videos. This is nothing against her personally. I'm sure she has a great personality.
If you guys consider those videos "repeating shots" you need to up your standards.
She is the perfect example of what is wrong with the whole bowling industry. She has been on at least 2 different ball staffs. Sorry boys, she just ain't that good.
-
I just looked her up on USBC.com, she looks pretty decent there. Her last recorded PBA league average was 183 even. Not to mention 11 300s and 4 800s. Most of these come from Thunderbowl in Detroit.
She's at least a better than average bowler.
-
I wonder how many people running her down could beat her head to head on a variety of shots? I'm thinking, not as many as those dissing her would think!
-
Seems like a lot of unnecessary venom for someone who bowls and seems like a good ambassador to bowling. Her average is "high" enough or "she's the problem with bowling today" seems ridiculously harsh. This thread started as a simple question and then turned into a bash fest. That's the real problem with bowling and the internet. Keyboard warriors talking crap from behind a computer and no way to hold them accountable.
-
It's far from ridiculously harsh. Someone like her getting free balls is the reason every person that can average 220 thinks they should get free balls.
-
Unfortunately I have to agree here . . maybe it's not right, but it doesn't seem right to people who have "success" on the lanes or at tournaments or in the industry and who have put in the time or work but can't get a staff contract with anybody to get onto youtube and see people who don't seem to be at the same skill level as they are on staff. That either pisses them off, or creates a false sense of what it really takes to be a staffer, like you alluded to. At the same time, people end up on staff for several different reasons, she could work at/manage/own a pro shop, that counts for a lot more than how you throw the ball, but sometimes it's hard to explain that to joe bowler or get them to understand . .

Regardless of her rev rate, if she contributes a bunch in her area, and knows the basics, and is a nice and respected person, she can sell a lot of bowling balls.
People want someone who will listen to them, and perhaps give them a pointer or two, and they'll buy your recommendations.
It's up to the sponsoring company who they choose, so why not congratulate her and enjoy the rest of your day?
P.S. Brunswick has treated me like a king for nearly ten years now. Someday they may want someone else in my spot, and if that ever happens, I'll be grateful for some really fun years and move on. This is bowling. It's not life or death, but you wouldn't know it by visiting this site. Sometimes this place can be a great spot to gain/exchange ideas from other bowlers while other times...

You should go visit the unmoderated forum...it's a hoot.

I think Clay hit it. Regardless of any other factors, that's the bottom line for a company when considering staff.
Still, I enjoyed watching her videos. She was a nice contrast against watching the 400+ rev guys going coast-to-coast on YouTube that 99.9% of bowlers will never match to. Instead, she showed how the balls react for Joe Bowler on a THS. There was something refreshingly honest about it.

My wife used to be on Motiv's staff. Along with Angela, I believe they were the only women on their amateur staff. The amateur contract with Motiv does not really give bowlers "free" equipment. They are reduced price equipment. I believe you might get two free ones when you first sign, but after that, you pay for all your equipment. Some are able to earn money redeemable for equipment.
To defend Angela, regardless what you think of her form or her average or whatever, she is a known commodity in the women's circuit in Motiv's backyard of Michigan. There is a lot to be said for a company to support local talent. There are many bowlers who have amazing form and high averages and all that, yet aren't on a staff. And there are the opposite also, less ideal form, low average, etc. But what Angela did was get the Motiv name out there and showcase their equipment. The number of comments on this topic are indicative of her reach.

SPM.. Agree 100%!
-
I agree with ^^..some staffers I have seen shoot the lights out on a house shot and struggle on tougher patterns. Its really all about can you move there product on staff.
-
Maybe it comes down to staffers not needing to purchase on their own dime a new ball every 45 days even if discounted?
Not everyone has newballitis. :D
-
As someone who has done Videos for a ball company I can say this.
I am not on "staff" with Visionary, but have done a few videos for them. Are they super duper high quality.. nope I do the best I can.
Do i get a discount on balls.. yes. Do i get them free.. nope
And when you add in all the time I spend shooting the video, editing the video, clipping it all together and paying to get it drilled I am prob losing out on the deal.
BUT
I enjoy doing it and they seem to be ok with the quality of them.
So to bash someone that puts in the effort no matter what their quality of bowling just sounds like a little bitterman to me.
-
I'm far from bitter. It's been a very long time since I paid for any type of bowling equipment.
I just no longer have any ties to the industry so I don't need to be PC and can state my opinion.
-
It's far from ridiculously harsh. Someone like her getting free balls is the reason every person that can average 220 thinks they should get free balls.
I think what is more ridiculous is the average bowler who thinks his score is all that matters in getting on staff.
But I see your argument.
-
I'm not sure how the average person is supposed to know that though. All they do is watch the video and say, "this person is on staff with somebody? I'm better than they are!" Most people don't understand what being on staff is about, they think if they're good enough bowlers, companies will want them promoting their stuff, they think that's all it takes is bowling good because all they see are good bowlers that are on staff.

And that is why I said I saw his point.
I realize some people don't think about what it takes to be on staff. A lot goes into the decision: ability, schedule, sales, image, location.
And after I read itsallaboutme's post, my message stated pretty much the same thing, just in a different way. Fact of the matter is, Angela is a good bowler. Her form, which seems to be the part of the equation most have an issue with, may not be textbook Kelly Kulick. But there are many professionals with less than ideal form.
I realize many people like to poopoo on staffers for one thing or another. This seems especially true for a lot of Motiv staffers. I understand the reasons, but this topic was getting out of hand in my opinion attacking Angela for what some think is an undeserved amateur staff position.
