My arsenal thanks you!!
« on: June 06, 2005, 03:26:08 AM »
While perusing the W/F/T section for balls, I see so many "low mileage" balls.  Balls with 2,5,10 games on them for sale.  While I love this as it makes for cheap pickings for boosting my arsenal, how can you tell after 3 games that the ball is just not for you??  If I'm paying full price (at least internet prices) for a ball and pay to have it punched, I'm sure as h*ll going to give it more than 3 games to impress me!!  I've rolled my recently acquired, used TA for maybe 6 games, total.  I can't say it's a favorite -- not even a highly recommended -- ball at this point, but I'm going to work with it and see what happens.  I'm not criticizing -- like I said, makes it easy for me to try different balls....Just wondering....

Some people just dont like the inital impression they get from the ball, or they just like to have new equipment all the time. There are several locals that do this.

I bowl by feel,

so the way the weight is displaced in the ball plays
a big role with me.

I tend to put the pin in the same spot on all my balls,
and just move the cg(MB) accordingly.

Within one or two game I can tell if I am going to like the ball.

Example

My favorite ball is a Rhino Pro T2, IT has the lightbulb core in it.
I have tried to find balls with similar core that feel the same when thrown
but the only two that I have found so far Have been the Columbia 300 Messenger Blk/Gld, and the executioner line from Visionary.

I'm finding I don't like strong assym.'s drilled for length.  My Apocalypse and TA are essentially drilled the same way -- pin above, right of ring and MB just right of thumb.  The Apocalypse is my absolute favorite ball and the TA, well, let's just say we're not on speaking terms at the minute.  I love a ball that starts revving right away -- I get a better feel for what it's doing that way.  Don't know if it's good or bad -- it's just me....

Sometimes I think "Player A" sees/expects the same reaction from a given ball as "Player B" posts on here or he sees at his local lanes. If, after a crappy game, he didn't get that reaction, then it's 'off to the bone yard' with it.

Just an observation.

And, yes, I like that seller as well, that way I can get something cheaper and try it for myself. As for me, most 'high end' assym's don't fit my little game, so I know better.

If a new piece of equipment is almost indistinguishable from a piece I already own across a couple of different conditions, I get rid of one of the pieces.  Why keep both?  The piece with less mileage on it will usually fetch a better resale or trade.
