So, how's your season(s) looking so far?
« on: November 10, 2008, 12:22:02 PM »
I have to admit, I'm off to my best starts thus far.  I've gotten leaps and bounds better in terms of reading lanes, ball selection and most importantly, fluid delivery and clean releases.  My strike count is at its best and I've done pretty well in the temper composure category, but it could be better.

Now for the bad.  It's pretty uncharacteristic of me in leagues past, but now my spare conversion is flat out horrible to this point.  In one league, my conversion percentage is at 56%, the other 64%.  I'm leaving more splits than I'm used to, but overall still not that many.  I'm fanning alot of extremely stupid single pins.  2s, 4s, 7s, 8s, 9s and of course the ever dreaded 10.  I've even fanned 1 head pin and a 5-in a regional.   ops:

I've also been in a pretty bad slump over the last month.  However, I feel (hope) I'm very close to getting out of.  But I'm still managing averages of 219 and 212.

I'm glad the first third is over.  I've been struggling horribly, my average is down 12 from last year and my team has been getting killed.  I think we ended up 14th out of 16

Averaging around 215 when I show up to bowl.  Past few weeks have been bowling like a retard.  Last week my first game was 149 and had like 80 in the 8th frame LOL!  Next game I shoot 230.

Still 2nd highest average in the league, but I'm hurting my team although we won the game where I bowled 149 by 2 pins LOL!  Striking out and taking the win away from the other team while bowling 60+ pins below my average FTW!!!!!!!

Doing good in one league averaging the mid 230's with an 812 and 804. Struggling pretty bad in my other league averaging around 215, can't seem to break out of the 640 range.

I shot my first 300 game of my life this year and I've been bowling for 23 years.  I'm sitting at a 205 average currently which is about 5 pins higher than normal.  So overall things are going well.

Doing fair this year. average between 210-220, down a little from last year, but it's the first time I'm using an "aggressive" ball, so I am having fun playing with it.  Both teams are in the top 5 and averaging 220 at tournaments

Started out real slow this year for my winter league. Bowled in a PBA experience league over the summer and then started my regular league. It was a disaster at the beginning as we switched from synthetic lanes to wood for the year. I was still trying to play the summer patterns on the house shot and I was having problems with my arm swing. I was only averaging 184 the first few weeks and then I worked out my swing issues and started using some weaker drilled balls for the wood lanes. I currently sit with a 210 average and look for that to go up as I have found two to three different lines to play on the wood lanes and even when they dry out every week.

There are a lot of guys who are struggling this year with adapting to the wood from synthetic. The owner was hoping that averages and scores would go up but that isn't the case right now. Every week is a learning experience and I am trying to adapt to the lane conditions as they change.

Congrats on the first 300.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who isn't shooting spares very well so far.  Thank goodness we still have a long way to go to rectify that.

Well I am doing good and bad both.  Just so you know where I am coming from my book average for the last couple of years is in the upper 180's one high of 192 two years ago.  I am getting older and can not crank the ball because my elbow and fingers were getting to sore so I have changed to a more down and in bowler this year so of course there is a learning curve with that.  I bowl two 6:00pm leagues in the same house so you would think the averages should be close to the same they have in the past well one night (Wednesday) it is 194 and the other (Sunday) it is 173 it seems like I just can not get the carry I am on the other.  It is nothing for me to only have 5 stikes with no doubles on Sunday night and a bunch of spares with the one or two opens a game and if I am bowling good clean games in the 180's.  On Wednesday I am getting at least 10 strikes a night and still getting the spares the same but when you throw in a double your 170-185 goes to 185-200 not counting a turkey.  I just have no idea I have tried every line I can think of and the results are just not there on Sunday night.  What I really think it the house has two leagues Sunday night at the same time and one is a PBA experience and I think they are not changing the lane machine between the leagues and we end up bowling on the PBA shot except on Sunday nothing works for more than a few frames and then it is time to find a new line it is nothing to go from one ball for 4 frames then throw a couple of bad balls and have to change balls and lines and by the end of the game that is now gone and you need to go back to the first ball the next game.  Usually I can use my go to ball the first 2 games and sometimes all three by moving a little using the same target but not on Sunday no one can seem to figure it out except the 100-130 bowlers that drop the ball or just throw it with nothing on it they seem to get lucky on the condition.

There I got that off my chest I fell better now until Sunday although I did manage a 600 last Sunday now if I just don't come back with a sub 500 this week.

I've been up-and-down all season.  I shot my first 800, but have blown several good opportunities to get a 300.  Ringing 10, high-flush 7, stuff like that.  Oh well.  I've also had several nights where I just threw the ball like garbage and shot 580s.

Tuesday nights is in a super-easy house, but I struggled badly a couple weeks in a row with terrible execution which dropped my average from 233 to 227 in just three weeks.  I had trouble figuring out the goofy wet/dry second shift slop on Saturday nights and barely averaged over 200 there for awhile, but I've been shooting 680-700 the past few weeks in that league and have gotten my average up to a somewhat respectable 215 or so.  I usually struggle one game out of the three on Sunday nights because the transitions happen SO quickly in that house, so I'm averaging around 223.

Tournament-wise, the only thing I've done recently was the Kentucky Open where I finished 17th overall I believe and cashed.  I have the state tournament in Paducah, KY coming up this weekend, and a small tournament in Campbellsville, KY the weekend after that.  So we'll see what happens there.

For only bowling in one league a week and recovering from a broken right shin bone I can't complain too much. 3-4 weeks ago I shot my 2nd league 300, the average stands at 216 and I'm covering my 10 pins pretty solid. That was always my weakness. I'll admit my timing is off and I have some work to do to get back to before the broken leg but I'm feeling pretty confident this year. I'll find out how much rust I knocked off in about 1.5 hours or so.
