'technical Newbie question': Top Weight: & Pin Position
« on: February 17, 2005, 11:42:47 AM »
Okay,
After talking to my local proshop on what type of ball would probably be best for me I have found the ball type I'm going to order.  My question is this, and it totally spaced me what he said.

What is "top weight" and "pin position" and how do you decide this?

I'm going to go to my proshop again if needed and ask them their opinion but I'd like to know anyhow.  I want the ball to have a pretty nice strong hook. So... educate me!

Top weight is related to how high the core is placed in the ball (we're talking small fractions of an inch), pin position is how tilted the core is (again, very small fractions of an inch).  If he asks, 3-4" pin and 2.5-3.5oz top weight are safe.  Buddiesproshop.com has a quick explaination on their site in the Q&A section.

I've ordered twice from Buddies, both older, discontinued balls and had great service.  They were quick to respond to my e-mails and their prices can't be beat.

There have been many, many, many posts asking this same question... Do a little looking and you can find one.
