My driller has never done a RICO layout.. soooo...
« on: April 04, 2010, 12:38:52 PM »
I think I might want to try this with my next ball which is gonna be a reign or rattler .. I have read a bit on this layout, but can someone give me a quick clif of what it is? And also, since my driller has never done one, is there a specific layout for one?

I'm definitely no expert by any means, but I'm pretty sure it's pin in the center of the grip (or a touch above center?) and cg/mb is kicked out 45 degrees....

I think.

pin down/hole down

Idedally a ball with around 2-2.5" pin
Place pin in palm (center of grip)
cg @ 45 degrees (4:30) position from center of grip(pin) for a RH, 7:30 for a LH
x-hole 6.75" from pin thru the cg

thanks guys.. But what exactly does the layout do opposed to a pin down for a quicker roll with a weight hole for a good backend? Is there a easy way to explain it, cuz Ive read everything on it but just dont understand why its such a big deal

Its really not a big deal and its not that accurate of a layout, depending your axis point it radically changes what the layout will do for you.

Anyone have any suggestions for a reign or rattler layout? Im trying to get something polished to compliment my Diamondback once it starts to roll early

Why not lay it out the same way, let the coverstock and core difference separate the balls?

well in the case of the rattler i believe it has the same coverstock and core as my DB.. Didnt know how much of a difference there would be

I have provided a photo of my Rogue Cell that has a Rico drilling. It is the first and only ball that I have that has that drilling. For me, the ball goes long with a nice snap on the back end. It was the go to ball for my local City tournament. The lanes were old wood and barely any oil put on the lanes. Any other questions, let me know.

mj,
Close synopsis of the Rattler and DB.  Core is the same, cover is Activator pearl and Activator solid.
Thanks,

This should help in explaining the layout benefits...

Rico layout for me is very smooth off of the dry, not a big jump at the breakpoint but stores plenty of energy to retain a good carry
its almost like the ball is kind of rolling out, but its not and it hits just as hard as any of my other stuff
Ive been using this layout a lot lately
I really like it

my pap is around 4.75" over and 1.25" up(some what of a spinner)... speed is 18+, revs are close 500 (so ive been told)...

never had a ball layed out "rico" but have really been thinkn bout tryn it on a dark star or a storm turbine cored ball (fast furious tropical heats) maybe even a hyroad.. rico says the pin should be 5-5 1/2 inches from pap, thats put the pin well under/over my middle finger and close to my track. this is what makes me a lil unsure bout tryn this... dont really want to pisss away $150!!
LOL
