My first adult league night
« on: May 08, 2003, 05:41:36 AM »
It was a little disappointing, but productive nevertheless.  I averaged a solid 190.25 for the night (four games), but I was hitting the pocket.  The shot played like a reverse block with a fair amount of area to get it down the lane.  The breakpoint is tigher due to the volume of oil, however.  It will start moving if you get it inside, enough to mess with your shot.  The backends are VERY strong, and the pattern is about 42 ft long.  The only problem is ringing 10's though, which I and others suffered from.  I had a good line, just left 10 after 10, then when I tried to move, it was the same thing, only it started adding 4's.  I moved too deep, made some bad shots in the second game, and then after the same in the third, I finally found it and bowled a decent game, only marred by the 4th frame where my wrist popped and I lost the ball (also a 10 and a 4, only shots I didn't strike).

Made a few bad choices, but I know where to play the shot now, so I'm not too bummed.  High rg or pearl balls are NOT a good choice, lol, just too sharp on already screaming backends to get much carry, cuts through the pins too hard.  I need a lower rg or sanded ball.  I did the best when I switched to my dead Purple Fuze, not quite as much hook, smoother backend, better line and carry.  So a combination of small carry issues, bad choices, and a few bad shots produced a mediocre night.  One good note though, I left around 22 makeable spares, and made 20 of them.  All my single pins were made, I hit a little high on a 3-6-10, and chopped the 10 off the 6-10.  Otherwise, I had 3 splits, and half of my spares were 10's, as well as a solid 7.

No, lol, this isn't my sport league.  I just took the wrong equipment and made the wrong moves.  It's the toughest house shot in town, but when you line up, it's the easiest.  There were two 299's shot last night, one was Ron Bahr's wife Kristi with a polished Red Pulse, and another guy named Anthony Judd who was using a slightly dulled Reaction Ricochet.  The only balls I took were two Purple Fuzes, a Red Fuze and a Scream/R.  The ball won't move an inch before the backends if you get it sliding down the side between 5 and 10, outside of 5 you might as well forget it, and inside of 10 is a nose job, but the breakpoint is at 6-8.  The backends are so strong that 4's and 10's are pretty common.

I made bad shots too, and wasn't able to made the sole adjustment that I needed to.  I was putting forward roll on the ball, and that was probably most of the problem as far as 10 pins went.  I've been practicing 50 games a week at the synthetic house I've been having trouble with for a LONG time, and the pattern at that house can't be longer than 35 feet, and it's pretty dry, as well as having soft backends.  Forward roll is a must at this house unless you have low revs or high speed.  This other house that I'm bowling at on Thursdays now, as you've read, is much different.  It's an older wood house, and it was just resurfaced a year or two ago.  It was mostly my fault, first for not bringing a dulled lower rg ball, second for not being able to stay consistent with more side roll (my angle of rotation was about 45 degrees), third for making stupid shots when I was playing deeper, and the fourth thing was just carry issues that I thought were forcing me to move.  If I'd have just stayed there I'd have left 10's all night, but I didn't miss one of them, and I'd have had a clean set, not to mention a higher score.  Did I talk enough this time Lefty?

least it isnt like my league, next week theyll just mess with the shot, putting a flood, not oiling or hey lets just put an OB at 10 but you can play outside of 5 if you want to. its alot of fun and sees who is the most consistant bowler because of the range of conditions. Always have equipment in the car like an incase of emergency ball, i always have my old stuff in the trunk in case i need a particle or a down and in ball or sumthin.
