What should I do...
« on: April 14, 2007, 07:43:46 AM »
I had a tournament today. The Lehigh Valley Junior Masters. It is going to be my last tourney as a junior as i will be in adult next year. This is the biggest tourney of the year around here. I struggled a lot with carry, I made it to the final four tomorrow, but to Qualify i have 2 games to make up 110 pins on 2nd place. I feel as though it's not even worth bowling tomorrow as i have to count on 2 of the other 3 left to have 2 mediocore games. I shot 144 222 177 177 today, thats a 720 1st 2nd and 3rd are all over 828. This really stinks because i need to shoot 2 260 games to even have a sniff at a chance. What type of Mindset should I have, should i just go in and bowl like i have nothing to lose.

when im in this position i find ti best to just go out there and bowl ur own game, not worry about the scores and jsut let things come as they are...u can only do one frame at a time and only one game, so just go out and have a good time

Yea, I had a lot of confidence after the first 2 game block as i finished on a big game, but then in my next block i slammed the hell out of the pocket the whole time and had like 5 or 6 nine counts each game, and i really wasnt on top of my spare shooting today, if i was i wouldnt be in this position. I would only be down by 50 pins maybe if I could shoot a 10 pin when it matters. Im usually unconscious with single spares but lately if been off.

Look at it this way, being so far behind means you have nothing to lose.  You already know the odds aren't in your favor, so relax, don't worry about winning, and play your game.  Everybody else will be putting pressure on themselves fighting it out, it might cause them to make a couple of extra mistakes and let you back in.  However, since the tourny is not in your hands, just have fun with some more bowling, and hopefully you'll get on a roll.  If not, you've already wrapped up 4th which is always an honorable finish.

Yea I guess 4th isn't bad. I get a plaque and stuff for it, I think the reason I feel the way I do is because its a scratch tourney set up by ave. divisions and I'm actually at the highest ave. without being in Major A, so I guess I kind of expected to be in a better position especially after i got lined up the 2nd game.

Yeah, you just have to go and bowl.  Junior Masters is a hard tournament to win. (I think that they should just do straight matchplay when they cut to top 4, its too hard to make a comeback)  Be glad you've made it to the top 4, I missed the cut both after rounds 1 & 2 both years. (granted, this year I was sick and I cut my ankle, so I had no balance, but I still shouldn't have bowled as poorly as I did)  Like others said, you've got nothing to lose, so take chances, it might pay off for you.  Good luck!

Exactly!  As my coach would say "Bowl like a warrior!"  You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.  I was told a story about Leanne Barret.  She was all but out of the competition having to basically shoot the game of her life.  She went into the game and bowled as if she had nothing to lose ... she made the cut and, if I recall correctly, won the tournament.

i was in a situation like this last year in the same tournament.  just keep your head up, play your game and hope for the best.  last year i went from 4th to 3rd, not much higher but was only 8 pins out of second after climbing up 82 pins

i jsut wish it this year heard it was pretty easy
