Last night was my first experience playing league. I am on a Hi-Lo league at my local lane and I came away from it with some interesting first impressions:
1. I saw a gamut of un-orthodoxed bowling styles. Some styles were very "herky-jerky" and some seemed to border of reckless abandon. One bowler on my team held her ball as if she were holding on to a suitcase when she was trying to pick up spares. And, the way she held it, I was amazed that she didn't injure her wrist. Her wrist was on top of the ball throughout the swing.
2. The personalities of the bowlers in the league was interesting. While some bowlers were very open and friendly, there were others "stand-off-ish" or anti-social, and didn't want anyone talking to them.
3. There were two bowlers who actually bowled and scored well by throwing house balls and bowling straight on the THS we bowled on last night [Christmas Tree pattern-medium oil]. They didn't even try to hook the ball, not that you can hook a house ball.
4. For some of the bowlers, it seemed that their time bowling was a "chore" to them. In other words, "Let me bowl my three games and get off here". They didn't seem to enjoy their time bowling.
The biggest thing that happened to me was my strike ball got chipped/gash during the second game. With no strike ball, I was left with my Scout/R, which didn't perform well on the THS, and my scores suffered. I have to wait for my strike ball to be repaired. Chances are next Sunday, I will go with my White Dot and just bowl straight.
