Title: My first lesson
Post by: Nollster on November 10, 2003, 08:17:34 AM
After a few weeks of being completely lost on the lanes, I decided to get a lesson.  What an eye opening experience that was!!  We changed my setup to be open which is really helping me clear my hips coming through.  Instead of holding my ball out in front, it's now chest high and close to my body.  That allows me to just drop the ball down and into my backswing for a much more relaxed armswing.  He showed me 3 different hand positions which I can use for the various shots I'll face -- including one that will let me actually hit the 10 without having to get a new ball!!  Through these changes, I've upped my ball speed 3-4 mph and increased my revs without impacting my body in any way.  I'm also beginning to understand the adjustments I have to make to hit my shots.  Once we found my starting point, my ball was still catching a little early and moving a hair too far left.  He had me move back 3 in. and I'll be d*mned if I didn't start nailing the pocket!!  It was amazing!!!  I'm going to give it a few weeks of practice and head back for some more later.  Don't know why I didn't do this from the start!!

My exact sentiments. Why didnt you do it from the start
It took me a while to find a coach, but it has really been of fantastic benifit to me too.
Keep having those lessons the skys the limit you know.

We worked quite a bit on the corners -- I've been leaving enough of them lately!!  He's got me starting with my thumb pointing at 1 o'clock with a broken wrist.  I throw between the 3rd and 4th arrows and, as long as I don't change that wrist or try to add a little lift, I nail the 10 every time!!  My tendency, especially since it's so new, is to get a little panicky at the bottom and come over the top a little bit -- ball slides right by the 10 when I do that.......
