I really liked the format we had in Mandeville last weekend. Team event with six games of match play. The event was capped to 32 teams and we used a 32-week league schedule for the rotation, with a blind draw for team number.
There were 100 bonus pins up for grabs in each match, 10 on each individual match and 60 for the team win. It was a scratch event, so I don't know how much interest would be generated for a handicap version in the same format. I could easily see something like that being halved to 10/10/30 to run as a doubles event.
Guaranteed prize funds are nice but some proprietors are unwilling to take that gamble, even though it should pay off in the end if the tourneys are an ongoing venture. Some bowlers will not enter unless the first few positions are guaranteed.
