...But I have.

The only problem is that my entire arsenal is 16 pounders, and to be honest I really like a few of them, and don't have the money to replace with them with 15 pounders and a few other balls to complement them.

The only reason I consider this move to a lighter ball is Yes I do want to do tournaments, Yes I want to be competetive, etc.

There's a guy in our league, we'll call him "Tommy".  Tommy is 24 (I'm 22), and he throws one heck of a big ball.  He's as pure a cranker as a cranker can get.  I've bowled with him since I was 13.  Tommy has averaged 220 since he was 15.  I have moved up from averaging 160 at age 13 to ~210 now.  I said all that to say this:
SEVERAL people in the league (that average 2-teens) have approached me and said "you throw every bit as good a ball as Tommy.  He's just more consistent".  And looking at it now, I believe them.  Tommy is 5'11" and about 180, and fairly well built.  I'm 5'9" and about 155.  I'm putting a lot of body and body weight into every shot that I throw, and I think because of that I'm inconsistent.  If I didn't have to rely on the whole chain so much as I did one specific part, or lighten the load by going to a lighter ball, think I can be more consistent?

I keep saying I can average 220, and I do for about half the season.  That's why I'm not a 220 average bowler, I can't keep doing that...

Try dropping to 15 maybe even 14 if you still have issues.

That's funny... I'm at the exact flipside.  I have always thrown a 15 pound ball. My best series was 682. I bought a 16 pound a week and a half ago and in open bowling my lowest game is 222 and I shot 772 in league last Thursday... So now I'm wondering, is part of this because of the ball weight?? My suggestion, try the 15, worse case scenerio you don't like it..

I think there are some advantages to 15 lb equipment, but I am not sure consistency is one of them.  If you feel you need more ball speed on some conditions, or need a few more revs, 15 could help you.

The only reason I'm thinking consistency might be helped is because being a smaller sized guy acting the part of a guy about 3 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier, I might not FEEL tired, but the body might get tired.

Although up until 2 years ago, i was almost pure finesse.  My average is higher now, but... ahhh.  If I could afford a coach, I might go.
