why do we need to buy new equipment/???
« on: August 12, 2006, 11:54:42 AM »
I shot 659 Thursday at my summer league, and I have not bought a new ball in 4 years. I had over 10 boards of area to play with 14-15 year old equipment.... No carry issues. It was a Danger Zone 2, bought 5 years ago used for 25 bux shipped....I love this ball so much it is headed back into my bag, and one of my beloved SAWS get to set out this season.

I hear all the time the oil is getting thicker/heavier, The lanes are getting slicker, why is this when I can (and do) go into a bowling alley (any in a 3 county radius) and can play around with one ball, and consistantly shoot duece??

I know about the "HONEY IT ONLY COSTS THIS AMOUNT" or the "HONEY THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER BALL LIKE IT TO ME" or the "HONEY IT ONLY COSTS $10 PLUS SHIPPING" BULLSH!T..........

If your a 3-game a week house bowler, no. more balls offer more choices and more variety on tougher patterns to match up better. out of the 10 current balls I have, the only one i actually bought was my overtime, and it was well worth it.

If you have equipment that will cover most lane conditions right now, then you should never need new equipment unless centers start putting more oil out. I've seen competitive bowlers who have not purchased equipment in 5 years. I've seen true heavy oil balls for their day hook or out hook any of the new heavy oilers that are out today.

If your bowling on difficult conditions that are always changing then I do see a need for a bigger arsenal.  I don't see the need to always buy new equipment.

This post also reminds me of high end balls vs. mid end balls.  I don't buy the high end equipment anymore because those balls are just too dam strong.  There's never enough oil to use them.  If you do get on a flood it wont matter what ball you have because they will all slide anyways.
