My new ball
« on: July 17, 2003, 08:25:04 PM »
Well, after many hours of research and serious deliberation I have decided on a new ball to try to fill my gap (I need a medium oil ball to fit between a Columbia WOW and and AMF Menace Pearl).  First of all I want to thank everyone who gave advice and input towards my decision.  I took everyone's advice and then what did I do????  I went after an impulse buy.  Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a bad buy.  But like I said before, most everyone buys a few balls before they find the right one.

I went with a Columbia Spirit.  I found a great deal on one and I went for it.  I have heard great things about this ball, and after reading every review here and at bowlingballreviews.com, I decided to buy it.  I even called the wife and told (asked) her and she said it was okay.  Pretty surprising.

Anyone want to chime in with some input to let me know if I made a wise impulse buy or if I totally screwed myself.  Any and all help/input/suggestions are welcome.  Thanks.

WHile there may have been better choices to fit between those 2 balls, this should do just fine. YOu might want to drill it strong, because by its nature it's sort of a medium ball that can cover a lot of conditions. Something very middle of the road medium strong, like a 4x4, should work out. Not sure about your specs (look at your profile) or how the other balls are drilled. As a "tweener/cramker" this ball should work for you

I'm no expert, but my 15-lb Spirit always worked well for me on dryish/medium lanes.  As far as carrying the 10 pin, it's my best-hitting ball.  I haven't been using mine lately because it needs to have the thumb opened a bit.

I've had two Spirits, The first one I used at Nationals in Billings last year and had a great tournament 52th in doubles and won about $1400, not to bad for a low end ball. The 2nd one shot 300 my first league game. Bought one for my wife and she has had some success with it. The bowlers Journal name it, its ball of the year last year. I've seen somebody selling these balls (nib) for $35. can't remember who,but can find out if anyone is interested.

I was gonna get the spirit, but i got the Wild instead. I think a Jekyll would have fit that spot a lil better than the spirit.
