My PBAx Chameleon experience
« on: May 12, 2010, 07:54:04 AM »
Well last night was my 1st night back into the PBAx leauge after a 2 year break from it. I did A LOT of video watching and talking with the proshop operator over the last 2 years. I know where to play when fresh and had an idea on what to do when the pattern starts to break down. Here's my break down on last night.

I started warmups playing the 5 board with nothing good as a result. I then moved to the 10th board and noticed the ball kept going high. Practice was over at this point.

1st game I kept working on finding the line, I knew I was supposed to play the track area around 8-12 but finding the right ball speed was my issue for the 1st 6 frames. 7th frame I found a decent line standing on 26th on the approach, rolling the ball over 18th board at the arrows with a small belly, the balls break point was at 10th board down lane. My ball speed was softer then I normally play, normally at 18mph, I was playing 17mph on most shots.

My line didn't really change all night, I moved 3 boards left in the 2nd game. 3 seperate adjustments, 3rd frame, 5th frame and 9th frame with 1 board moves.

3rd game I made a 1 board left move at the arrows in the 2nd frame, 5th frame I made a ball change to a weaker pearl. Made the ball change too late but saved the night overall.

Game 1: 214
Game 2: 219
Game 3: 183

I'm very happy with the outcome of last night. 1st time bowling on a PBAx shot in a while. All I did was read on how to play the shot and watch several videos. No actual practice with bowling....

I normally average 205 on a THS, I'm starting out the summer PBAx leauge with a 205 average.

Wish ours played that shallow.

I started the night around 15 at the arrows finished around 28 at the arrows.

If I do oh well but I'm going to do my best to do better then 165. I don't have any plans to average, just go out and work on repeating shots and make spares.

I thought that too on my first PBA league.  I averaged 155 at season end, ROFL.  2nd PBA league I'm at 185 including some injuries.  15 week seasons.  3x a year so some of the bowlers don't get burned out.  Weekly singles sweeper style.  Bowl 3 different opponents each game and move pairs each game, 4 games each week.  Baring the injuries I think I could have been in the low 190's.   Screwed up my slide leg knee from a bad accident about midway into the season but gutted it out till 2 weeks from the end when it gave out on me.

And that's all we can do.  Good luck, I start next week.

My PBAX starts tonight, we face Chameleon the first 2 weeks.  This house in particular is synthetic, but VERY hard to carry in, in the first place, deeper gutters and not the most active sidewalls, so we'll see how it goes.

Basically, i'm going in open minded and prepared to make large moves..

We have deeper channels as well, side kicks at the deck are active on solid pocket hits anything less the side kicks just suck up the energy from the pins. We get lots of rattling 6 pins (right hander) in the channel because of that extra half inch from the synthetic panels.

I have yet to bounce a pin back out of the pit since the installation of the synthetic lanes. Before the new lanes I could bounce a pin back onto the pin deck at least twice a game.

That's good shooting. Last time I played it I was astonished by the amount of backend the pattern had. It would not tolerate being inside of target downlane. Lot of folks were beaking it or crossing over and running down the 1-2-4-7 line with the ball. Lots of 5-9 leaves for righties.

I've pretty much found that once the ball leaves the oil pattern, the ball pretty much takes off on you. Not much hold there. For me, it put a premium on a consistent release and speed in addition to accuracy

That is the way the pattern played for me last year in my PBAX league.  You did not want to miss to the inside or you were through the nose or crossing over and leaving splits.

I noticed if I missed my target left at the arrows or break point the ball was going to hit very high or cross over. If I missed at the arrows, the ball went high to almost dead on the head pin, If I missed left at the break point it was almost always crossing over.

I'll admit it I had 4 brooklyn strikes Teusday night. Usually this pattern plays a little drier than this but I have a feeling I had help from 2 other bowlers on my pair. The shot seemed remarkably easy but there was 1 guy playing 3 boards right of me using a 200 grit invasion (No idea why but he was), and another guy between him and I using a 1000 grit sheen polish wild thing. I was using a 1500 grit polished gravity shift....

The invasion fellow created a rebound spot, 3rd game the chameleon played just like a house shot.

Looking forward to next week no matter the outcome, new players, different lanes, different weather conditions (at least that's what everyone else beleives).

I am surprised you were able to make one board moves all night. Normally that pattern forces you to move zones once they transition. Hmmmm, interesting.

I'll be joining one in progess.  I get to make up two weeks over the weekend.  The first 3 weeks are on Chameleon, so I haven't missed any patterns.  This will be my 4th summer PBA league (one unsanctioned), all in different houses.  It will be interesting to see how the patterns play this time.  I've never even set foot in this house before, so I have no idea what to expect.  Last year, my highest average was on Chameleon.
