Pinky finger

Any opinions on tucking or not tucking the pinky finger? I have heard several reasons to do it or not.

I do when I need more side roll.  Haven't experienced any type of pain yet luckily, but I've seen it happen to others.

I try it when I need to get a little more lift. Like when the lanes are a little slick and my ball isn't making it to the pocket like I'd like it to. I prefer to tuck my pinky to get a little more hand in the rather rather than making a move with my feet.

Around my 3rd or 4th week in the first league I ever bowled in I had broken my pinky finger and had it taped up in a splint and then rolled my first 250.  Keep it close to your ring finger for a little more lift. Experimenting is how you learn in this game.

I have tucked my pinkie now for more than a season and now it is just habit. Sucks that I stop doing it now. Any advice on how to stop doing it?

I do it all the time. I started trying it watching PBA pros and good local league bowlers. Once you start though and get used to it,it can be difficult to go back. You get so used to the extra axis on the ball, more length and sharper backend if you try it back the other way you may be displeased.
I personally like the feeling of my fingers off the ball to my target and I think I can do it more consistantly tucking then having it flat on the ball.

I only tuck the ball when I'm trying to get it to "tip" when playing in, it helps me get the ball to come off the spot a little harder (more axis rotation but I also get a little more tilt which can be counter effective).

It can't hurt to try it.

tucked, the thing is, i try to let the ball go, rather than rip the cover off, so now that im not using finger inserts, theres nothing is on my fingers... except my thumb that up to this point is pretty much not reparable unless i stop bowling

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

I tuck, because if I don't my pinkie tucks itself in my backswing.  --  JohnP

I tuck on one ball that has a span 1/16 long because for what ever reason unknown to me, I get out of it cleaner. On my regular span as well as a ball I have that is a wee bit short, I get out of it cleaner without tucking.
