My PTQ adventure......
« on: March 01, 2006, 12:32:44 PM »
well, as alot of you know, I bowled the PTQ in akron today. It was exciting, disapointing, humbling, and educational all in one! Once again at first, my nerves got the best of me. When I get nervous, i get fast feet. When you have fast feet and are trying to throw it slow, well, lets just say it's not a good combination. I threw mostly the Arsenal Artillery, and the Machine a little bit. I didn't take anything with me that wasn't polished, and that was a BAD choice on my part. The Shark pattern today played tighter than normal(so i'm told). The lanes did open up later in the day, and I was able to get a little going. It seemed as though I'd throw 3 or 4 in a row, them throw a split. The second game was the worst, where I left 5 splits. I crossed with none other than Jeff Carter. I give him HIGH PROPS!!! Jeff, you threw it well today, and I hope it continues for you like that all week!! Watching Jennifer Petrick shoot 300 to start the day and Kelly Kulich make a charge at the end only to fall a few sticks short was exciting also. There world IS the real world when it comes to bowling, not the fantasy that most of us live in.

Anyway, here are the scores:

172
147
205
201
178
203
182

If you have any questions about today, shoot me a message! Thanks for everyones support!!

But can you tell us about PBA lane courtesy? A couple of local Regional Pros in my area tell me it's just as smooth as 2 lane courtesy when everyone is on the right page.

From what I hear...all it is is basically waiting "a pair to your left and a pair to your right." Is this correct?

Not to hijack, but IME the PBA lane courtesy is actually *smoother* than two-lane courtesy, because when it's your pair's "turn" to bowl, the player who's up on your pair just bowls...no hesitation, no waiting, no Alphonse and Gaston.  I wish the bigger scratch leagues in the area would adopt the PBA lane courtesy.

However, you may want to be careful if you're going to bowl a Regional in the West.  There are certain guys who don't take kindly to double-jumping, especially by guests, and they aren't afraid to get in your face about it.

I actually saw a situation like this when I bowled the PTQ in Hammond. One of the regional guys who was bowling felt that he was double-jumped by the guy on the pair next to him during Game 7. The pro got all up in the other guy's grill because, after waiting, he went on to throw a bad shot. The amateur just kind of just sat there and took it even though I'm 99.9% positive that he didn't even commit the double-jump. Personally, if it would have been me, I would've let that pro know my feelings on the matter. It would've been one thing if he actually did something wrong, but to let someone talk all of that crap when you don't even deserve it is something else entirely. Most pros that I've bowled with are nice guys. Some of the others, however, need to be reminded that skill on the lanes does not give them the right to walk around acting like they own the joint. After all, there are several guys who can whip me on the lanes, but there are plenty more that I could whip in the parking lot. lol

I can't bowl 300, but I can bench 345 : )

Hmmm.. Nobody got in my face.

Maybe I didn't double jump anyone...

Or maybe I just bowled with a good bunch

or maybe they were afraid to hurt my feelings.
