My Rant of the day: Carb Friendly!
« on: April 14, 2004, 08:04:05 PM »
What's with this crap?  Low Carb this and Low Carb that.  I don't get it.  Everything is a "wrap" now.
A sign said "Carb Friendly" outside of Sonic.  Isn't that an oxymoron?  If something is friendly, don't you 'want' it?

I'm a Manly Man and I like Manly food.  I eat steak, hotlinks, BBQ, and burgers and fries.  I don't want no sissy salad or green stuff.

Sawbones is 78 and has never eaten a green thing in his life and he can still outrun, out bowl, out fight, and out golf most people 20 years younger.  Why?  He doesn't sit on is butt all day long eating Bon-Bons.

Get off you fat @#%Z and walk for a change.  Try a nice glass of water intead of drinking Big Gulps all day.

When I pick up a few pounds on my body, I back off the amount of food I eat and workout.
As far as I'm concerned, they can take their "Carb Friendly" stuff and shove it!

Rant over,  now I need a Donut:

Dude, this whole carb revolution is pissin me off too. I work at a convinience store and there is all this stuff comin in that's got "Low Carbs" printed all over it. I think Jack Black said it best "I'm not the skinniest man, but I love food!" People are never going to be satisfied with who they are. Give your thanks to society and the media.

Didnt that Atkin's guy die from his own diet??????

1.  Manly men eat low carb.  That's meat, eggs, bacon.  Manly men do not eat refined stuff, sugars and starches.  So Hose, if you are really manly, you eat like your prehistoric ancestors ate -- low carb: meats, nuts and berries.

2.  Atkins died of trauma.  He didn't die of his diet nor was he overweight.  Folks like Physicians for Responsible Medicine  -- a group that promotes strict vegetarianism -- took the fact that after his head trauma, he gained water weight in the hospital (as a result of his system shutting down, he was bloated) to take potshots at his diet.

Real men are hunter-gatherers. They don't eat fries and twinkies.

The wifes on the carb thing and wants me to be supportive.  OK OK so when we go out to eat I am.  When we get home I dive for the bread box when she is outside.  She lost 4 pounds the first week which is great!  But I miss the English muffins at Denny's

Dr. Atkins, as I understand there press release, had a heart dieses. one not caused by dietary intake.

Here's my take on this topic.  At my heaviest, I was 240.  I ate doughnuts, cookies, ice cream, and all the bad things.  I got sick and tired of being sick and tired so I joined a gym.  I weighed myself this morning after my workout and I'm down to 220.  I still eat the same things, only in moderation.  Instead of eating 6-8 doughnuts, I'll have one or two.  Why drink a pop when I can have water?  Same question I asked myself.  I have a 72 oz. glass of it right by me now as I write this!  I basically changed my eating habits and started working out.  I feel better.  I look better.  My clothes fit better (I need a belt) and I'm bowling better too.  Next season, I'm trying for a 230 average versus 220.  Maybe my new and improved attitude will help me achieve that goal.

You guys are funny.
What works for one may not work for the next. It really bothers me that some of you treat the subject of weight loss so lightly (sorry 'bout the pun)

I have fought a SERIOUS weight problem my entire life. Just recently, I got a doctor to listen to me, and start me on thyroid medication. Hopefully that will put a seriously out of whack system back on track, so I CAN lose weight.

I actually had a doctor kick me out of her practice a few years ago, because she was convinced I was lying on a food diary. She wouldn't believe that I was eating less than 1000 calories a day, and less than 15 grams of fat, yet not losing weight.

I've been following Atkins/low carb for a while. At first, I lost 14 pounds, then stayed at that weight no matter what I did. After 3 months of strictly following the diet and not losing a single pound, I quit following it for a couple of months. I've been back on it for a month now, and I've already lost more weight than I had the first time. Maybe it's the thyroid. I don't know.
The TRUE low carb diet is extremely difficult for me to follow, because I don't get enough energy to bowl 12 games in a day. But I'm trying. The doctor and I are working on some effective way for me to consume a few more carbs on "game day" and still keep losing weight.

Now - off to Carls Jr for a true low carb lunch - gotta get going on the rest of the 100 pounds I need to lose!!!

I love it!

As that one ad says, the gravelly voiced announcer comes on and he says,

"I love food, now salads not food...... but it means foods coming!!!!

I roar everytime I hear that ad!

My 1 1/2 year old son he's so funny!  Just like Dad.  Meat down the hatch.
Hand him anything that looks like a vegatable. Waits till your hand is nearby and then pushes it away with a firm "NO"!

"Foods comin!"

I've been on the atkins plan since 2001 and I've lost over 100 pounds. You wanna talk about carbs making you a manly man. You have your carbs and while you're getting fat I'll take your girly girl.

I guess this is somehow "bowling related". Maybe we can at least agree that we need some level of carbs in our diet in order to keep our balance or our ball speed.............I'm beginning to see a pattern develop here (for those of you who are George Bush I fans)...........I'm not trying to hijack the thread, I am trying to derail it............I guess non-bowling related would be the recipe portion of this thread (same way sports talk shows are now about money, sex and drugs)

I can't have many carbs, so it makes it nice to have something I can actually eat besides nuts, greens, meat, and certain kinds of fruit.  I work in a grocery store (night stocking), and when I go to get something to eat, I rarely am able to find much.  "Oh fun, cashews and straight peanut butter again."  Low carb stuff is about like sugar free stuff, I'm like a borderline diabetic or something.  You DO make good points though, eat solid food, drink water, and exercise, for heaven's sake.
