Just wondering what people use when the lanes become toast? Do you use shiny balls or dull ones? and why?

I persoaly use a shiny ball. Because i feel it gives me
better controll and a better read on the lane.

A shiny ball would save up more energy for the backend in this situation since a dull ball would want to hook too early and would roll out by the time it hits the pins.

Shiny balls and usually try to stick with pearl resin or urethane, sometimes having to resort to plastic when they are super toast. I find I have better control and can get better back end energy reaction from shiny equipment versus dull on dry lanes.

You definitely need to go with shine. When lanes are "toast", you need to get the length. Dull balls will use up too much energy trying to get down the lane and lose its backend reaction and hitting power. Go with an entry level resin such as a Scout/R or Hit. If that is too much, a urethane Scout or urethane Gargoyle should do just fine.
