You guys can tell me whether you think this works or not.
I do it two ways, 6-ball and 8-ball. Depends on how many bags the wife will let me get away with carrying. (g)
6-ball
1. Oil piece that wants to roll reasonably early. Either a solid reactive, dull, or a particle solid with a decent load.
2. Reactive solid that can get outside a bit more if necessary. Probably has a little polish on it with either a longer pin, or a weaker core with a Rico drill. Substitute: Strong particle pearl with the same characteristics.
3. Reactive solid, polished. Something without a trick drilling that can play pure mediums. Substitute: Particle pearl with the same characteristics.
4. Reactive pearl with some good pop on the back, but not all in the backend. Needs to have a good midlane read. Something drilled to also allow me to back off on the tilt and still play with it.
5. Weak pearl with a long pin-to-PAP distance and/or a control drill (CG axis, etc.) that I can use to get outside the track area and go up the boards late in the shift.
6. Spare.
8-ball
1. Dull solid reactive, early roller, leverage drill with good differential that I can arc for days.
2. Particle solid, preferably medium to higher load with some surface modification (800-1500), that has traction in oil but also enough push through the fronts and save some pop for the back to deal with carrydown.
3. Reactive solid, probably polished a bit, with a Rico drill.
4. Particle pearl, good strength, probably a leverage pin. Basically the same look as ball No. 3 but better in carrydown.
5. Reactive solid, polished. Something without a trick drilling that can play pure mediums or maybe lean towards medium-light.
6. Reactive pearl with some good pop on the back, but not all in the backend. Needs to have a good midlane read. Something drilled to also allow me to back off on the tilt and still play with it.
7. Weak pearl with a long pin-to-PAP distance and/or a control drill (CG axis, etc.) that I can use to get outside the track area and go up the boards late in the shift.
8. Spare.
Notice I didn't mention a specific ball by name or manufacturer. I've got multiple options for each slot, but I tend to think of arsenal building more along the lines of "slotting" rather than picking out two or three specific balls and then try to fill in gaps.
