How many use a lighter weight spare ball than strike ball?

Just curious because I have several league members that do....and was wondering if it made a difference.

I go a pound heavier for my spare ball, plus its xxxl so it can work as a strike ball on toasted lanes also.

IMO throwing a lighter, or heavier, or differently drilled ball for spares, or having balls that are different throws your mechanics off. I use all the same weight and drilling.

AM not A CHICK OF BOWLING but I wanted to be in Manda's clique And why would I "saw" pins in half, THATS A WASTE OF PINS! I'd rather blow it over with my storm, and 21mph ball speed on dry shots.

Benny, I didnt mean same layout, I meant if one ball has slugs, all of them should, if one has inserts all should, and all should have the same span, that type of same drilling, not the lay out

I am an exception.  My strike balls are 16 and my spare ball is 14.  I have actually had more success picking up my 10 pins since I dropped in weight.  It allows me to slow down my footwork and relax my armswing which gives me more accuracy.  Granted I do have a 2 handed methos for strikes.  But, for making the 10 pin, I put my thumb in the ball and use the traditional 1 handed method for shooting that spare.

Me, I use the same pound ball for everything. I figure why risk interfering with my mechanics.

He must be mistaken if he thinks different spans will change reaction, but someone correct me if Im wrong.

Prefer to use 1 pound lighter on my spare ball, but this isn't because I want to throw it faster necessarily (although having that option is nice). Using a free armswing it really doesn't matter how heavy the ball is, my timing is almost exactly the same.

The reason I like the lighter ball is that the extra deflection has helped me to pick up a lot more splits than when I was using a spare ball that was 1 pound heavier than my spare ball.

There must be some legitimacy for it since Chris Barnes does it.  Not so much changing the reaction, but changing the release.  One of the bowling mags recently did an analysis of his span.  His spare ball grip is longer in span and faster in the thumb than his strike equipment.  There may have been some other "enhancements" as well, don't recall at the moment.  But it makes sense that a different span will result in a different release.  That would be a cause for a ball to react differently.
