Uh Oh
« on: September 25, 2006, 08:24:15 AM »
We've babysitting my great grandson.  He's about 18 months old now so I figured it was time for him to start learning how to bowl.

Ran into one big problem right off the bat.  He wants to use his LEFT hand!!!

If I used duct tape to tape his left arm down, would that break him of the habit?

What's the matter, are you afraid the 18 month old will kick your old right handed butt

Come on Sr, admit it, you really wish you were a lefty

80% of the world is (semi) normal. 20% are prepared to be greatness. Actually tieing the arm to the side does help and was done in the pre 1900's  as being left handed was a sign of the devil. My triplets are 18 months and have been working on them for 3 months to roll or throw with their left hand. I only need one but right now two are showing signs of usage greater in the left hand.

good move bones since a lefty playing righty on the course generates more power since a proper swing is intiated from the left, but somewhere somethign got screwed up as we all know hose is not in the "right" mind

Why would you want to restrict him from using his left arm?

Face the facts, we all know that your biggest fear is that he will beat you due to the "easier conditions" on the South Side.  You could always use that as an excuse when he whips you.

Phil Mickelson is right-handed, but plays golf lefty.  Rafael Nadal does the same playing tennis.

I don't know if it really matters, but it would be a heck of a lot easier to teach him to use his dominant hand.  There will be more strength and coordination.

Plus, lefties do have those two extra boards of area.  The two with arrows anyhow!

Also, there's no saying your grandson will be as gifted an athelete as Phil or Rafa.

Look at it from my point of view.  No matter how talented he may become as a lefty he will never earn any respect as a bowler.  300's and 800's are meaningless anymore even on the right side of the lane.

What chance does a lefty have of gaining any respect.  It will always be because of the lane conditions, not the execution.

Look at it this way:
in French
left = a gauche
right = a droit

in English:
Gauche = clumsy, awkward
adroit = clever, nimble.

interesting, eh?

Sucks for me.  My father is left handed.  He had 4 kids and we are all right handed.  HOWEVER......I had a son and he turned out to be left handed.  Skipped generation.  Go figure.

Too difficult.

Teach him to be a Football Long Snapper.

Get into the NFL because you can snap a ball 15 yards through a tire and collect 600k every year for 10 years.
