Mystified! Please Recommend Me A Set... Please?
« on: April 07, 2004, 02:18:13 AM »
Yup, going for a new set. I have no idea what I am looking for, i'm open to all suggestions, but slightly biased towards Storm for controlability (but I'm really not that fussed). I shall give you all the info I can.

Right Handed
Stroker
165 off average
regulaar revs
45 degree axis tilt
Fast bowler (over 16mph I believe)
Prefer to hit the pocket from up to 5 boards left on centre dot, not entirely sure of my line.
I am not fussed about the rection type (I do like the sometimes snappy backend of the x-factor though)
Prefrably a 4 ball set covering the whole range.

If theres anything else I can tell you please say so.

TIA

Joe.

Let me give you a sample arsenal that you could have for around $400 (wholesale, without drilling) and would have you matching up to most conditions

V2 Strong (hook as much as anything out there)
Power Diesel
Flash Point
Power Groove
Plastic ball
 MongoThe Unlefty

Its in the "why even throw high end ball thread's."  Check it out.

You average 160 so you do not NEED 4 new balls.
You want a new ball. This is a waste of money.
Spend the $ on a good coach
and whatever is leftover see if you can hire your sister
to do your spellchecking for you. You may save that money
if you can find the hidden spellchecker right here on this
site! You have to look real hard for it. I think it is right

They are simple typos you anal uncultralised fool. I'm English, and what you think is spelt wrong is spelt in the proper English language. I have a great coach, being 16, I think my average as respectable as the last few weeks I've been bowling 180+ averages and the alley is atrocious. I may not need the set but it's prefrable as i'm good for my age over here so I am playing many tournaments.

Right now I am throwing an X-factor, I have 3 other balls (El-nino 2000, X-It, Meteor((VINTAGE!))) but they are too close together in lane conditions they cover and have died.

Don't listen to Buzzhead, those Lane 1 freaks get all pissy when they look at their credit card statement and realize how much they spent on 1 ball.

Stick with the X-Factor and work around that... it's a pretty good ball.

OK, something to work with!

I am an Ebonite guy so my recommendations will be from that company and Hammer.

Keep the X-Factor. Good replacement for the X-it.
Buy a Viscious Pearl as a primary ball, replace the 2000 with a Primetime and replace the Meteor with a V2 Clean. You'll probably need a good plastic ball also.
Drill the Viscious 3x3, drill the Primetime 4x2 and drill the V2 Clean 5x1 or as close to CG axis as you can. These will cover all conditions.
Bowl well.

Thank you! Something to work with (thanks for the suggestion! It is appreciated).

Now i've what a 4 ball should include, I was thinking:

(Brunswick Ultimate Inferno)
Storm XXX (drilled not too strong for heavy med conditions)
Storm Razor Wire
Storm Spare

Would that cover a wide enough range.

Phat-  I too am an Hammer guy.   I am slightly confused.  Not by ball choices, but by layouts on those particular balls.   Why to you use so many layouts with the CG close to the axis?   Do you want every ball to rev early?

Storm-  My suggestions would go like this:

Power Diesel-  4X33/8  Your Oil ball.
Blade Solid-   5X4
Big Blue Pearl  5X5
Red Pearl Urethane-  spares and FRY

xfactor replace x-it...your insane...maybe it will replace the 2000, but the xit is a VERY strong ball and i dont think it possible to compare a x-it to a xfactor (maybe it would be more comparable to a fear factor, but NOT an xfactor)...
Secondly youve got 4 balls 3 of which are very high end (not high performance more high price imo) why dont you spend less on balls, and more on your game. If you see that many different conditions then you shouldnt need anything more than mid range stuff.  Kids these days are way too much into wasting mommy and daddys money on new equipment and not enough on skills.

Youve got an x-factor...thats a wonderful medium oiler (overpriced, but can handle most mediums well)

Youve got a meteor and a 2000...weak resin and dead ball...one of them would work well for light oil (2000 only works there if dead)

X-it if not dead is a monster on heavy oil

SO imo, polish up the meteor or 2000 for light oil...drop the dead xit.....keep the xfactor....buy a plastic....

Heavy.........v2 strong (buy)
Medium........X factor  (keep)
Light.........Meteor Storm  (keep)
burnt/spare...White dot  (buy)
--------------------

Point seen.

BTW. I spend my own money and work as much as I can on my game.

Usual conditions (local alley):

Unregistered pattern, oil here, oil there lol.
Actually I think its more medium/light amounts, half lane length or a little over, but usually the amount/pattern is unpredictable.

Other alley where tournaments are held:
Medium length at more of a heavier amount, probably medium heavy. Wooden.

Likely conditions encountoured: Medium heavy, relatively long, various pattern.

Hope that helps a bit more.
