Myth Or Fact
« on: August 22, 2009, 01:32:59 AM »
Today I was told two things that I could not believe and would like you guys (who know more than I do generally) to tell me if these two things are true or false.

1. I was told of a type of ball that no matter how much you bowl with it it never leaves track lines (oil rings, etc.) and it was due to titanium particles in the ball that cause the ball to grab the lane without it picking up oil.

True or false?

2. I was told by the same guy of a man in canada back when they bowled with wood balls who in his lifetime bowled approximately 1200 300/Perfect games.

True or false?

Extra note: this isn't some kind of unusual test i am actually curious as to whether they are true

The first statement is an absolute falsehood.

The 2nd statement is not necessarily false.....but it is an exaggeration.

If you go into the archives of the USBC/ABC you will find that back in the 30's' and 40's there was an individual who essentially was a "Bowling Minstrel"

He toured the country doing all sorts of bowling tricks. I forget his name, but he is listed in bowling annals. Since he was such an accomplished bowler, it is assumed that he bowled that many 300 games over the course of his lifetime. A pretty big assumption, I might add.

Oh, and I don't believe he was Canadian.

IF someone, indeed, rolled as many as 1200 perfect games, you can be assured that the vast majority were not sanctioned or certified by a reputable tenpin bowling organization. Or are we talking about an arcade or video game type of thing?

It may be Jimmy Blouin he is referring to. I'm pretty sure he didn't have 1200 300 games but he was a great bowler and from Canada originally. He was known as 'The Blue Island Bomber'. His best years were around 1910 and that was around the introduction of the Brunswick Mineralite ball (1906-first rubber ball) so he could've been using either wood or rubber. Not much info on the 'net about him--I read about his feats in a book called 'The Perfect Game'.

If the bowler was any good then there would be a nice little track on the lane within a few hours.

I bet Robert Mushtare has more 300's than all the above combined!

I'd like to know why Glenn Allison is sometimes called Mr. 900. Shouldn't Mr. 900 really be Robert Mushtare? After all Mushtare has two certified 900s, not to mention three noncertified 900s, and Allison has never rolled a certified 900.

That's because Allison did it when you were not allowed to have the GREAT wall of china. The used to check the lanes after every award score
