Name a Low-Medium Load Particle Ball (Pearl or Solid)
« on: December 15, 2005, 08:59:08 AM »
I'm trying to fit a low-medium load particle ball into my arsenal.
I would prefer the ball's core to be symmetrical, but it doesn't matter.
Trying to get some ideas in there.

Here's my arsenal so far...
Heavy Oil = Track GP2
Medium Heavy = Track Rule Delta 1 (Hook-Set)
Medium Heavy = Ebonite The One (Long and Strong)
Most Mediums *Control Ball* <-----------------------------Fill the gap!
Light Mediums = Track Heat
Light - Burnt = Track Desert Heat *Soon to be added*

So far these balls come to mind to possibly fill that gap...
Track Arsenal Aggressive
Track Arsenal Reactive
Brunswick Ambush
Brunswick Ragin Inferno
Legends/Lane Masters New Standard 2

Anymore guys and any suggestions?
This ball will most likely act as a control piece to smoothen out snappy backends or just to keep me out of trouble overall when my Aggressive stuff is overacting.

Thanks!

The new lane one Enriched Uranium. Symmetrical diamond core with light load pearl activator plus coverstock.

NOt sure if your looking for newer equipment but the Apex Obsession is a great choice. And there cheap too on Ebay.

Just used mine for the first time in a heavier oiled tournament and this ball shined on this condition. It gave me the control I was looking for playing a down and in shot. I think it actually covered more boards in the midlane than it did the backend. Hit real hard and carried extremely well. Then again, it's assymetric but I couldn't tell by throwing it. If that's what your getting at being more angular at the breakpoint. Even as the lanes got a bit drier, I added some tilt to my release and playing the same line, kept in the pocket.

The only thing is the ball doesn't have too much recover when sent out wide. I wanted this ball to kill some over/under situations I see and it does just that. Nothing strong at the breakpoint. FYI, it's a medium load particle.

IMO the Ambush would work well in that slot.

The Aggressive and Reactive will probably start up earlier than The One.  The Raging Inferno is quite a strong ball, and I don't know much about Legends/Lane Masters.  I'd think the Ambush would fit the slot well, although it's not super duper smooth.  My friend's Ambush is still quite strong off the dry.

As has been said, raging inferno is a REALLY strong ball.

I think the best control light load particle that was out there is the Brunswick Eliminator. There's a reason it was one of the last of that series of balls to be discontinued.

Arsenal Angular would be a great addition to that arsenal.

Hey, Ram.  Been by Rick's lately?

The Arsenal Aggressive might be too strong for the slot you want to fill.  Take a look at the Big Blue Pearl.  Mine has good recovery, doesn't overreact and carries even off hits very well.

A Track Mutant, if you can find one.  It's asymmetric, but a low-load particle.  Super smooth.  Failing that, the Blue Heat is also a low-load particle.  It should be pretty controllable.  And it's symmetric.

Ram,

I know you said symmetrical, but the low-load ball I fell in love with is an Impulse zone.

I too wanted a control ball, so I ended up drilling it with the pin below my ring finger and the p.s.a. turned 90 degrees to the grip centerline below the v.a.l.  Ball has a light polish on it at factory finish.

The x-hole is on the v.a.l. in the finger positive quadrant.  This ball is smooooooooooth and never over-reads the wet/dry line.  On a THS it is like it has radar to the pocket and the carry is good as well.  It is also good if the lanes are a bit "squirrely" because of its predictability.

Either the ambush of Blue Heat would be great choices, the blue will handle a little more oil than the ambush, kind of depends if you want a pearl or solid.

My primary concern is that your rev rate does not indicate a safe usage of particle balls for medium oil conditions. If you drill the life out of them to "ENFORCE" control, then you risk making them too specific. To be honest, I'd lean towards a good solid resin with a control drill, solely because of your rev rate/ball speed combination. However, if you must ...

If you're talking
1. control
2. medium oil
3. particle ball

you're talking New Standard 2, NS2. period. end of story.

If you want to  save money, decent alternatives are the DT Sniper or the Brunswick Ambush. Addendum: add the Track Blue Heat: cheap, great core, particle, control.

If you're seeking control, don't use longer pin distances or pin over the level of the bridge.

With your revs, the Arsenal Aggressive will be too strong, the Angular, too ... angular (not a control ball), the Raging will be too strong (need too much oil).

I'd agree....I have an NS 2 and it's a great medium control ball with great carry.  Depends on your rev rate, tilt and how you play the lanes.
