To plant or not to plant?
« on: February 02, 2005, 11:51:17 AM »
A good little question that is mainly for opinion so I'm interested on what everyone thinks. Is it better to slide as you release or better to almost stop and release. Plant and throw is usually linked to crankers but when watching Norm Duke he doesn't slide too much...which led me to thinking hey maybe I should try to not slide as much? Or is it better to slide? I would think that the plant would allow more accuracy but sliding would lead to that great smoothness that a lot of people strive for. Just wanted to know what everyone thinks is better, and what do you do?

People say if you want to continue bowling when you are older, you'll have to learn to slide.

Planting, actually causes much LESS accuracy. It usually makes you pull the ball through, and throws you off. A good, medium length slide is what your looking for. BUT, if you have a long slide, keep it, it doesnt hurt.

I suppose that's true and Norm is having problems with his knees (due to little slide?) it just feels more consistent with a smaller slide. Just wanted to know what people thought. If you have a diff opinion Tell us!

The closer to stopped sliding when the ball gets to the ankle at the bottom of the swing the better. This maximizes leverage while still providing an area for timing.

I'm a planter now, but use to be a slider -- don't know when/why/how I changed....I definitely notice the strain on my "slide" leg from not sliding...

Id agree with pin-chaser on what he says.
I do have a bit longer slide at times which helps me with my timing if its off a little.
