my PSO and i were talking today and i brought up that some of the houses near us have a different material for the heads and backends than the middle, and we couldn't figure out what it was called. this is a picture of one of the places i could think of. just past the arrows the material changes and then again in the backends.

I can't tell for sure from the picture but I would say they are old wood lanes.
The heads were of hard maple, that dovetailed into pine just past the arrows and the pin decks were of a hard wood like maple.
The different woods would be of slightly different colors.

For sure it's wood lanes. Looks like someone replaced the heads at some point with the rest of the lane being older.
-
Yeah, looks like wood with Guardian overlay. God, Guardian is garbage.
-
does anyone know if there is a specific name for lanes built this way. that picture is from heids lanes. resurfaced the lanes around 2 years ago, they might have done it since but i don't know. they are the driest lanes around my area.

All old wood labes were constructed with maple heads and pine down lane. Several different material were used fir pin decks

Wood lanes with guardian overlay is the worst. It bubbles up and delaminates over time. Ball will bounce in certain spots when it rolls over it.We have an old local house that still has it. Horrible surface.
