Name some of the SMOOTHEST-reacting bowling balls:
« on: August 29, 2006, 01:38:21 PM »
My teammate is a grizzled veteran of the game and has been using the same old equipment for several years.  His benchmark ball is an old Reaction Arc and he also has a Quake that comes out when he wants a little more angle.  He has tons of talent and is deadly accurate.  He carries a 215+ avg. every season with this ancient equipment.

I was talking to him today and he is ready to pick up some new equipment for the season, and he mentioned that one thing that is important to him is that his ball not over-react.  He wants to be able to control the breakpoint and backend, and he has plenty of hand to be able to get even weak equipment to move a decent amount.  Basically he is looking for a smooth, even, arcy reaction.

My first thought was a Tsunami H20, but I would like to provide several options for him, because he knows I am the ball-o-phile  So hit me with a few of your suggestions; I told him he could select a layout that is weaker as well, but he wants some ideas on which balls would fit the bill regardless of layout.

On edit, it would be helpful if any suggestions involved newer equipment that is easily available.  Might be kinda tough to run down some of the discontinued stuff.

Smoothest ever?  V2 Dry...  how could it be anything other than smooth without any differential?

BTW, my lane #1 H2O hybrid offset is sickly smooth for a pearl.

checkout the layout, it may have something to do with it as well.

I have my Tsunami drilled exactly like your H20, MegaMav.  I agree, super smooth!

SawFreak some might find it strange with it being a pearlized
ball but my Element ZR40 with the polished knocked off and
at 1000 grit is very smooth off the break point. Although
it's not the biggest mover as far as total boards covered it's
still plenty strong and is a great control ball.
Hope this helps and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

There are even reacting dry lane balls and even reacting oily lane balls and everything in between. Like from a Blue/Green Centaur to an AMB Particle.

What kind of oil is he looking to handle?

Anything partcile that is not made by storm (storm particles most like reactive balls to me). The Ultimate Inferno is a very smooth ball that comes to mid. Might be able to get it on closeout but, a V2 sanded is a very smooth rolling ball and IMO is still smooth polished. For drier or Light/medium, a Roto Mercury is a good choice also.

based on expierence i am going to suggest a few that i know are pretty smooth reacting balls:

      1.  Absolute Inferno
      2.  Roto Grip Epic
      3. Brunswick Strike Zone
      4. Ebonite Overtime
      5. Storm Thunderstruck solid

The Super Trooper by Columbia fits what you're asking for.  I got one for jsut that reason.  It's been recently discontinued, but there are still a bunch out there to be had.

Good point, it does matter what kind of oil we normally bowl on.  In our center we typically see medium-heavy on synthetics, 60 units in the middle out to about 6 along the gutters.  He is also looking for a decent benchmark to take with him to tournaments when he doesn't know what to expect.  He'd like to be able to use the same ball(s) for leagues AND tourneys.
