What's an ideal weight for a spare ball???

I agree with tenpinitis. I tried a plastic ball that was 1 pound lighter and while it worked at first - I eventually found that my timing was affected and I was missing my target.  Once I began using the same weight spare ball the problem disappeared.

1LB would be better for me.

Factors why would 1lb be better is because of the lane conditions. the backend could be playing a game with you and ya plastic might just hook away from the pin.

Sometimes people also go with a pound lighter to get extra deflection, albeit slight, for splits.

yes, it's very possible. when i was in HS, i worked at a 30 lane center. during the day, i would set up the apple on all 30 lanes and shoot at it. I made it 7 times out of 30 tries. Thank goodness i've never left it, YET!!!
