I think someone was going to ask me to bowl for them....LOL
« on: October 29, 2012, 07:38:28 AM »
I happen to have time this past weekend, and decided to go out and practice.  I noticed someone from the league bowling above me came down to my lane. He stood there, and it seem like he was going to ask me a question. I was on the approach and I made sure he knew I was aware of his presence. After I threw my shot, I looked back and he was gone.

I ponder this for moment. I wondered what he wanted. My only conclusion was he was probably going to ask me if I was able to bowl for him. Then I wondered why he left. That's when I looked at my score, I had an 87 in the 8th frame. LOL!

I just imagined he was looking for a sub and someone said to him there's so and so, he's a good bowler, why don't you ask him to bowl for you. He comes down to my lane and sees that whopping 87.

Well, if he based his decision on how you were scoring during practice, he's not the brightest bulb on the tree anyhow. I don't know about you, but I use practice time to work on things, not to score. As such, I may just shoot at spares out of full racks, try different balls, different lines, different hand positions, etc. I'm not really looking at what the score ends up being. I actually just prefer to have them turn the scoring off so that it's not even a temptation for me to worry about it. I think that's how most people practice.

I agree with Gene. Out of the games that I practice, I will usually only "try to score" on the last one, so I can see if I can put into action what I was working on.  If someone happened along during the game where I try to chop 7s and 10s... ;)

Back in the mid 90's Rick Steelsmith was practicing at my home center on the end pair.

He was working on something at the time. At one point his small son (probably about 4 years old) came down to the lane he was on so he got a ball and went to the line and let him roll it down the lane.

It quickly went into the gutter at which point I heard several spectators groan.

Rick asked me what that was about, I laughed and told him the scorer was on and he had thrown 11 strikes in row and that would have been his 12th.

He was totally unaware of any scoring he was doing.

And that's the way it should always be during practice sessions!!!
