Question for no-thumbers and two-handers...
« on: August 31, 2008, 12:43:21 PM »
Just wondering, what finger pitches do you prefer and why?  Grips or no grips?

I'm messing around with pitches at 1/8" under to 1/8" away without grips, and thinking of going to at least 1/4" away in an attempt to get the palm of my hand flatter on the ball.  I'm hoping to get a more "stable" feel this way.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.

I use 0 pitch. I dont want my fingers pitched under (too much strain on the fingers) and I dont want them pitched reverse (I want to be able to grab the ball---isnt that the point?).

I also use inserts. I tried finger slugs as a replacement once. I feel that the little bit of give that inserts have allow comfort to not be so specific. When I tried finger slugs, they were so touchy. It was tough to get the right feel. Again, I was unable to grab the ball as well. By throwing without the thumb, we reduce the control we have on the ball already---I prefer having something I can grip in the fingers just for a better feel.

I do have a little oddity in that I like the inserts to be extremely tight. Always have. In some instances I probably dont even get my fingers in down to the bottom of my fingernail. I like having as much of the ball covered with the palm. Again, more control.

I have gone both with and without inserts. I seem to score better with inserts. I just have to be careful not to put the fingers in to far or it rips up my fingers. I use 1/4 away.

I actually use one size insert too big and use almost a semi fingertip grip.  I do this to get a better feel of the ball even though I dont use a thumb.  Doing this allows the palm of my release hand to be more flush on the ball surface.  As far as finger pitches, I am 3/8 left and right, with 0 forward/reverse.  I have tried 1/8 forward.  But the problem I have is that my fingers do not want to clear the holes cleanly.  Tend to get hung up.  I like the 3/8 lateral because even with the higher track, it still allows me to get around the ball and create axis rotation which helps me get the ball farther down the lane.
