Silly question...

I just got a new Sigma Sting and I used it for 9 games in three different house centers. I'm still finding myself how to throw/use this ball. Before the Sigma I was using an Aura Paranormal as my "out of the box" ball with pretty good results.

The weird thing is that the even when the Sigma is supposed to be a weaker ball than the Aura. The Sigma overhooks too much and I need to move to the right (I'm a lefty) and also I need to open the lane in order to hit the pocket while with the Aura I can throw more straight and hit the pocket.

The question is: Can a medium oil ball be stronger than a medium/heavy oil ball? The Aura is smoother than the Sigma. But you get my point right? I thought that every single ball designed for heavy/medium oil would be stronger than one designed for medium conditions.

Am I wrong or right?

Sigma is a strong ball. There are lots of difference between the two bowling balls and their intended purpose. 

Likely number of games between the two along with difference in surface and layout will be the bigger determining factor.

It's possible there is less oil than you think and the paranormal is burning up. A weaker ball will hook more on less oil. Now the Sigma Sting is a strong ball but not as much of an oiler as the aura

I thought about that too. The Aura has been used for 10 months while the Sting is new. The thing that I got the Sigma because I wanted it to be my first ball and  i haven't figured out yet how to use it and be consistent.

So, a heavy ball used in less oil doesn't neccesarily overhooks? It can also look like a "dead" ball with almost no reaction?

Duh... I'm an idiot. I always thought that only a ball designed for medium or lighter conditions can look "dead" when used on a heavier pattern. I never thought the opposite.

I bowled tonight on a dry lane, was oiled yesterday and it was really tough to hit the pocket. I had to move 5 boards inside and had to go deep in order to open my angle, still I had some splits, but the Aura had almost no reaction, while the Sting was almost every shot high or a little high.

Well, I learned something new today and I bowled outside my confort zone and still hit 194 average after 6 games on wood lanes (which I never tried before) lol so I guess I'll take it.

A lot  of possibilities here.  I have had pairs of balls where one hooked more on one condition and the other hooked more on another condition.  I wasn't about one burning either, just the way the different balls reacted to differing volumes, and even types of oils.  In this case I think the explanation above that the Sigma has a fresh shell compared to the older ball is the most likely explanation.  Look for the Sigma to tame down over time

Thanks for your answer avabob. I also took the Sigma to 3000 and it hooks now just as much as I wanted to.  8)
