Need a new towel
« on: June 03, 2006, 12:04:11 AM »
The old microfiber towel is torn and so it's time to replace it.

I don't know whether it's true but I'm feeling that the old towel is losing its oil absorbing ability.
So I would like to ask if a microfiber towel would "die out" like a ball coverstock does over time. I regularly (like once a couple of weeks) throw the towel into the washing machine. Is it the correct way to clean it?

Another question is: is there any brand of microfiber towel that is better than the others?

Thanks in advance.

When you wash it, I hope you do not use bleach or softner, those two things will 'kill' a microfiber towel.

I have one I've use for 2 years, wash it every couple weeks, still working fine, as far as I can tell, it does what it does.

Thanks azguy.

So after every set, when you need to do some ball cleaning before you leave the alleys, do you use a microfiber towel or just a simple towel to go with the ball cleaner?

I usually use a regular plain towel + Clean n' Dull to do the ball cleaning. Just curious if it's better to use a microfiber towel. If yes, I think I'll buy two microfiber ones, one for wiping off the oil after every shot, and one for the ball cleaning.

Thanks again.

With Clean N Dull I don't think it matters. I use just plane white terrycloth towels....one to put the cleaner on, one moistened to wipe it off with, and a third to dry the ball. I use a microfiber towel during bowling to wipe my ball after before every shot. And as far as I can tell...microfiber towels are the same as far as how well they work. I will say that Brunswick's are bigger.

For most cleaning and polishing I use paper towels.  I do use a terry cloth towel for the final polishing.  You can get microfiber towels in WalMart's automotive department.  They are just as good as any others and a lot less expensive.  Usually they're in bundles of five for about $1 per towel.  --  JohnP
