Need advice for Dry Lane Ball
« on: May 08, 2007, 07:40:10 AM »
I am a stroker type, Medium Revs, between slow and medium speed.
My normal stance is left foot one dot left of center and throw 8 - 12 board depending on oil pattern.
I am having a hard time finding a dry lane ball that will finish.
I have tried: Tropical Storm, Hammer Pure, and a Whit Dot. No luck yet.
Any suggestions?
I have been considering a ball for dry - medium like the RG _ Mercury 3 oz top weight 3" pin.
Or just take lessons from a local pro and get suggestions.

Thanks

Well if you have tried three balls to no avail, I would go for some coaching. Coaching is much better money spent than a new ball, I'd much rather pay 150 for coaching than 150 for a ball.

Use a more agressive ball and move your feet and target to the left, if you are a righty.  There is almost always more oil in the center of the lane.  If that doesn't work then throw the ball a little faster.  If that doesn't work then flatten your wrist.  If that doesn't work then try a combination of these or use all of these suggestions.  If that doesn't work then redrill one of your less hooking balls for more of a skid snap, or flip, reaction.  If that doesn't work then shine up a more agressive ball that has a flip drilling and try that.  Or, don't bowl on dry lanes.

A teammate of mine, who is very similar to you uses a Lanemasters satisfaxion, and that works for him pretty well.

Roto Neptune has been killing the lanes around here (Southern California). I just drilled one myself. Haven't thrown it yet though so I can't tell you from experience.

If the Pure Hammer hooked too much/early for you, I'd give Brunswick's Power Groove Dry/R a look. Very smooth pearl reactive. With a longer pin and the pin at 5" from PAP, this should work as long as teher sia a little oil left to play with.
