need ball replacement help
« on: October 25, 2004, 01:52:45 PM »
I need help replacing my 3d offset. Would love to get a nib but they are
next to impossible to get. What ball will match the reaction I get with
the 3d. Have it drilled leverage. I'm a tweener with speed around 14mph,
the 3d liked the oil but not dry.

avikingfan,

If you are talking about the Violet 3D Offset and are looking for a similar reaction you need to keep the core geometry as close as possible.

The Violet’s low RG was 2.538; the high RG was 2.585; the differential was 0.047. To match the core geometry you want to stay around +/- 0.008 on the low RG and +/- 0.003 on the differential. You also want to stay with a reactive solid. The other factors, that only you can determine, are length, backend and hook. Most of that is tweaked by drilling, surface preparation and release skills.

There are a lot of balls on the market but if you stay with a ball geometry that has worked for your style opposed to manufactures hipe you won't end up with another $200 dollar doorstop.

Balls that fall within the proper geometric range are:

Dyno-Thane Anomaly
Ebonite V2 Clean
Columbia Messenger Ti Traction
Brunswick Time Zone
Track Crunch
Roto-Grip Top Fuel

Hope this helps,
Tom
