Need Help!!!
« on: May 08, 2004, 09:04:03 AM »
I have been having some  major release problems lately and need some help.  First off, look at my profile and check my PAP. All exsperienced bowlers will tell you thats a spinner. Well, I need help raising my track. When I follow through my palm is facing left wall (right handed). So any tips raising track would be greatly appreciated. Another thing, just bought a Cobra 3 brace hoping to increase revs. I used it tonight and when I bowled with it my index finger kept hurting. And It really didnt seem to rev up like the ball did when i used a original cobra a few frames while back. My release may be the prob. If anyone can help me please PM me or make a post. Thanks in advance. Kyle

Sounds like that you are spinning the ball if your track is that low.  You need to keep your hand under the ball through the shot, and stop trying to come around it, which seems to be causing you to come more over and around.  I could help more if you can explain your release more in detail, or if you ever could provide a video with views from behind, from the right side, and from the front.  Hope this has helped some, and I will be glad to help further, any way I can.

Dude, give it some time.  Not many people are logged in after midnight on a Saturday.  Most of the traffic is during the week.

Read tip #20 to start.  http://www.bowl4fun.com/ron/tip20.htm

Most spinner releases come from turning the ball too early and trying too hard to hook the ball.  A nice, simple, release that is easy to duplicate is what you need.

I had a problem mid-season of comig around the ball too early and it was killing me.
The Author on here is the pro shop operator and a very good teacher.
He got me to put the ball a little more toward the index finger adn changed my release so that when I release the ball my index finger and thumb are in line with my forearm which will provide more side rotation. It helped me tremendously.
In thinking about what you said, maybe this will help raise your track somewhat. I hope it helps-----good luck.

My finger actually goes out farther than brace when i make the brace cup. It doesnt hurt when i leave the brace flat. So maybe i'll just leave it flat. Thanks. Kyle

BowlingDude300 -- This is going to sound wrong, but try it before you judge.  In your set up prior to starting your approach, rotate the ball counter clockwise until your hand is almost completely on the outside of the ball (think Chris Barnes).  Then maintain this position all the way through your swing and release.  A lot of bowlers automatically rotate the ball clockwise in their backswing, putting the hand on the inside of the ball (if they start with their hand straight under the ball on set up).  Then when they get to the release position, they have to come over the top (spin) to get out of it clean.  By starting with your hand on the outside of the ball you will naturally rotate to straight behind in the backswing, putting your hand in the correct release position at the foul line.  --  JohnP
