I would think you are making it more like work instead of just having a good time. Try to recall what about bowling made you enjoy in the past and focus on that. If it was bowling tournaments with the thrill of competition, then do it. If it was getting with friends and having fun, then do that. If you aren't having fun, then it seems something has changed. Be honest with yourself about what bowling means to you.
On specific point, you seem to be displeased with your USBC scoring. This after numerous studies on what the right ball was and gearing your game to do your best at the USBCs. But once you got there, no success was to be found. Now you want to quit because you devoted a lot of money and time and practice into something and got zero return. This is what happens to me. Expectations can ruin anyone's game. Not saying you shouldn't expect to do well or want to do well, but be honest with yourself and be honest with your expectations.
I know if I haven't played golf in a long time, I will play without a care in the world. What happens, happens. Inevitably, I will play a lot better than I expected because my expectations were low. I took what was given to me on the course and played each shot one at a time. I would play again and I would have thoughts creep back in my head about how I used to be a 7 handicap and how I could shape my shots and do this and do that. Then it wouldn't happen and I would be upset. But there was no way I could expect to be able to reproduce what took months of practice and time in a matter of two 18 hole rounds. My expectations were out of line.
Long story short, have fun. Be honest with your abilities and expectations. And go back to what made bowling fun.
Good luck on doubles and singles if you haven't bowled them yet.
