How do you loosen up?
« on: February 05, 2010, 06:59:10 AM »
How do you guys go about loosening up? I ask this because my first game has always been my biggest flaw, this seems to be because I am never loose. My armswing is pretty high so it plays a big factor if my arm is loose and my shoulder swinging freely without tension. Practice for 5min before bowling starts to get me to the point of being loose but never quiet gets me there. So what do you guys do to get loose? Bowl a game before league? Stretch?

I tend to stretch a bit before I head out to the alley and am fine, nothing major but i'm also pretty young.

lol, well I'm 19 so I don't think age is the problem

I would love to stretch out before heading out but I drive about 40min to the alley... plenty of time to tighten back up... I also think a factor is that I literally get up, get dressed, drive to the bowling alley, and go bowling, lol.

i'm 49 and warming up/stretching out is very important to me. i stretch out at home before i head to the bowling center and then stretch out a little more when i get there. my first 6 shadow balls probably aren't even half speed either.

being 48 and have a bad back this is a good question,

I walk around alot during practice (being the league secreatary and all) swing the arms around, stretch the back as good as I can, and like Gregg said throw the ball half speed for the first few shots, probably don't get really loose until 3rd or 4th frame.

I am 25 I go to the bar an hour before I bowl with my team and have a few drinks maybe a shot of Whiskey. Also I tape My wrist and index finger which also has become a mental prep thing somehow.

Practice routine: 1st ball slow and easy I always think slow motion. 2nd ball half speed actually bend my knees and finish the shot like I should. 3rd shot full speed my normal form.

I have the same problem. Bowling in college, you have 6-8 people per lane trying to get their shots in and find a line. You also generally get 15 mins, 20 if your lucky. That usually means you get like 8 shots max before it's for count. The hardest thing for me to warm up is my hand. My hand and fingers need to be relatively hot to bowl well, not 10 degrees from outside.
