OK....what is USBC trying to pull now?
« on: August 22, 2012, 06:00:50 PM »
Someone that got this notice today or recently in the mail maybe can clarify what this postcard from USBC is all about.
Awhile ago I got a USBC dvd. I haven't watched it yet but will at some point, didn't really see what else was with it but did find it odd there was a return envelope. My thought was so they could save money by having returns and resending them to other people. I tossed that but still have the dvd.

Today I get a very odd postcard wanting to sell me dvd's. Has this option at the bottom and a second option to again...return the dvd. But what I didn't see was a third option. What if I just keep it? They couldn't possibly try to bill me for a DVD I never requested in the first place. That would or at least should be illegal and could take legal action. I also thought USBC was next to my hometown in Arllington TX. What the hell is this address in Minnesota on this postcard? I mean, did they waste money using a vendor for this?

Why are they wasting my money ( yes mine as I pay sanction every year ) sending magazines and DVD's that has to cost a good amount of revenue to do when our sport is BROKE. How about using that money to create mandatory USBC sanctioned shots for all sanctioned leagues and tournaments which myself and many on this board have been begging for years to do. Sure makes you wonder all the waste USBC is spending on and the upper management of USBC are profiting off of us. If sanctioned bowling dies I'm blaming the starting point of the year 2005 when this inept organization decided to form.

On the org. letter that comes with the DVD it says its free to keep.

You have to read the letter that comes with it close. It makes you think you have to pay for it or send it back, but you don't. On the back of the letter it tells you it's free to keep.

It say's:
"Because you didn't ask for this special DVD, you don't have to participate or send it back and can consider it a free gift. No questions asked."

If they keep after you tell them of the Postal Regulations about "Receipt of Unsolicited Merchandise"
And that, it is illegal for a company that sends you unordered merchandise to follow the mailing with a bill or dunning communication.

And you'll contact the local postmaster or the nearest Postal Inspector and report them.

Last year I received a USBC dvd with the same letter. I threw the entire package in the round file. A few months later, I started getting e-mails requesting payment or to return the dvd. I simply ignored them. Again later, I got a phone call from someone requesting payment, or to return the dvd! I reminded them that because the dvd was shipped to me without my consent, it is considered free, with no obligation on my part to do anything more than throw it away.

Now, I also agree with BrianCRX90 that they are wasting time and money with this kind of promotion. There are better things that they could do, such as lane certification, getting every center to have working foul lights (god forbid!) and organizing with pro shops across the country to provide better support for new bowlers.

Awesome, USBC going to high pressure sales tactics to get money from bowlers. Sure they will harass seniors and others for the money and pressure them into buying more.

This is why I do not give the USBC my phone number or my email address.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

I would just like for them to get the Sanction cards out in a timely manner, I purchased mine online about 5 weeks ago, payment has posted but still no card.

I'm guessing the MN address is just the sorting facility used. But them selling our info to 3rd parties? That's a good question. I don't ever recall seeing a privacy notice.

I've bought the first two DVD's and think this is a pretty good service. They are well made and have a lot of good information. If you coach, I think these DVD's would be a nice resource to have.

I think the MN address is just a fulfillment house that does the mailings and processes the orders for USBC, but I'm not positive of that.

I also have bought the the second one and find the information presented in a very easy to understand manner. I see nothing wrong with the USBC trying to inform their members with as much information to improve our game as possible.
It's little I agree with as far as the USBC is concerned, but this is one of them.

Well I got a follow up letter today wanting you to join or send the dvd back.

But if you read the letter, theres a black outlined small print section that say's.

"Because you didn't ask for this special DVD, you don't have to participate or send it back and can consider it a free gift."

I kept the first and sent the second back.  Its at least an attempt to promote bowling and hopefully get current members to pass the DVDs around and encourage more people to participate in bowling.

Dear Bill Thomas:

It's much more likely that recipients will toss the DVDs into the "circular file" than passing them around.
