Changing ball companies and not sure what to go with
I am looking at either columbia or motiv.  I don't know which to go with.  Any suggestions?

I'd go Motiv.  Having thrown both brands, IMO Motiv has the more complete lineup at this point.  Plus, the Motiv covers seem to hold up really well.
Current Ball Arsenal
Heavy:
MOTIV Jackal Legacy
MOTIV Mythic Jackal

Med-Heavy:
MOTIV Trident Odyssey
MOTIV Forge Fire
MOTIV Covert Revolt

Medium:
MOTIV VIP ExJ Sigma
MOTIV Sigma Sting
MOTIV Pride Solid

Medium-Light
MOTIV Venom Shock
MOTIV Tribal Fire

Not getting a staff contract.  I am just a regular league bowler.  Average 225 on a typical house shot.  Do a few tournaments a year.  Just need some advice.

There is no reason to limit yourself to one brand unless you are getting them for free.

One big reason that I am going with Motiv is how they are making balls to fit in a specific part of an arsenal.  Their ball chart makes it easier to pick out your next ball to fit what you are looking for.  So far, I really like what I see...
MOTIV Jackal LE .................40 x 4.5 x 40 p2.5
MOTIV Revolt Vengeance......45 x 4.0 x 50 p3
MOTIV Forza GT ..................50 x 4.0 x 70 p2.5
MOTIV Sigma Sting..............50 x 4.0 x 45 p3

There is nothing wrong with having a diversified arsenal.  I have one.

But I can see merit in having a dedicated arsenal from one company to make filling holes easier.  If I have a Sigma Sting from Motiv, how do I know what Storm ball goes over it?  Most likely from trial and error.  But I know I can get a Revolt or Cruel Intent to go above my Sigma Sting based on the Motiv lineup.

agreed, i think having a company specific arsenal lets you more accurately fill in gaps in your arsenals easier

First of all, I am not on staff. I switched over to using all ROTO GRIP back in 2011. Since I have done this my game has improved. I feel that using one company will benefeit you by not having any overlap.

Like there isn't any overlap within each company.  Buy the ball that fills the need you have.

Thats great and all, except, having an arsenal from one company will cut back on the which Motiv ball is like what Storm ball. We have seen, that instead of buying a specific ball users want to get the next best thing from their favorite company.

Everyone has their take on this and everyone should do what they feel is right for them.
I bought from 9 different companies at certain time of my life, then reduced that to half as the prices increased and life changes....

But today, I picked one company that has two brands for the sake of simplicity, performance, and quality. These balls match up well for me and the different conditions I currently bowl on. My "bag" is much smaller and there's more room in my storage. ;) I own a total of 6 drilled balls. Likewise, I really don't have "gaps" in the bag since owning a spinner. And, I buy balls for whatever reason after the bills are paid and the kids are fed lol, OR they were given to me. I'll use these balls in the future that's for sure.

Lastly to the OP, if you have the money, try different companies. Buy new older models and test them out. Or, buy used ones. Also, start with a benchmark ball. Just don't buy balls because you saw it on TV, or it's the next hooking ball, or it's a HYBRID. You'll get lost, start in the middle IMO and build from there. some companies tend to be more skid/snap in their lines and some companies have more even or smoother ball motion in their lines. But choose wisely or you might get stuck in a cave with an old knight. Good luck...

I was using Brunswick and I was pleased with their products. Now I switched to Motiv and I'm thrilled with their bowling balls. My arsenal is now completely Motiv, 6 balls and I feel that there is no overlap nor holes in my arsenal anymore. I agree with the ones that said that going with one company simplifies the task of filling an arsenal instead of going with multiple brands, but again, it is just my opinion. Good luck with your decision!
