Need help
« on: February 26, 2004, 06:45:36 AM »
I figured out what my biggest problem is. My release. Its not consistent at all and I cant figure out why. I keep releasing the ball differently and dont know why. Sometimes my thumb doesnt come out quick enough and I feel like I am grabbing it at the bottom or sometimes it feels like it is coming out too soon and I am "spinning" the ball more than reving the ball. What drills/exercises can I do to get a consistent release?? Please Help!!

What I did, is I just threw like 6 games, not trying to score, just throwing, and set an easy realease for urself to do. I said, "Ok, Im going to come up the back of the ball every shot." so I did that, then, when I felt I was being consistent with that, I just modified it, into the release I want, and did the same thing for about 3-4 games.

AM not A CHICK OF BOWLING but I wanted to be in Manda's clique And why would I "saw" pins in half, THATS A WASTE OF PINS! I'd rather blow it over with my storm, and 21mph ball speed on dry shots.

Go to a qualified coach who will show you the right way to build muscle memory and help fix your release. Magic Carpet will be in Albany in about 3 weeks. People are quick to spend money on equipment but good instruction does more than a new ball. I am having the same problem as you but no  major extremes so i can still score on "THS". If not try practicing with no pins and just watch your ball rotation. (Put a piece of white tape on your ball on PAP) After a while you will get a feel for release and how the ball rotation is affected by it. Practicing and scoring are two different things and should be segregated as such.

Rock,
to me, sounds like you're not excercising a free-armswing, and utilizing muscle at least somewhere in your swing, thus having an inconsistent release, and/or grabbing it.

My lessons lately have helped my release become more consistent, and I wasn't even working on my release,..it was my swing

I agree with Jeffrevs 100%.

it all comes down to the beginning. you have to know how to set up and get your swing going or all the other things you do(or think you do) are based on nothing.

you can not make adjustments or even really tell what your doing wrong if you are not executing the first part correctly. that make for a lot combinations that can go wrong.

there are many things to repeat and we are not machines. but give yourself the best chance for getting close to repeating good shots.

it all starts at the stance and the the pushaway. there are many adjustments that you can make in these 2 areas alone that will give you different looks on the lanes.

The main thing is consistent and muscle free. look at Ron c's tip on setup. also look at MO's corner on his web site. good stuff.

Just don't squeeze the ball. it must fall free as free of tension as possible.
this will make it repeatable and easy to keep square to your Target.
